Anyone else get this at a dealer with Mopar Maxcare? I took mine in for a recall, blown subwoofer and peeling front caliper clear coat. They wanted $160 per ITEM, no matter how long the diagnosis takes. If you're slow, you'll hear the buzzing speaker in 30 seconds. Maybe a minute to see the peeling clear coat? Nope, $160 whether it takes 1 minute or 59 minutes. Since I have another subwoofer, I had them skip that then. The only real reason I went in was a recall on an evap cannister since I was always smelling gas. I'll update this when I get it back.

WTF? Inspection fee? That's nuts. Nowhere in the policy does it say anything about an inspection fee.

What is the deductible amount on your policy?

When I take our 2014 Charger in with the lifetime maxcare and $100 deductible, I always wait til I have a bunch of things that I have issues with and they are all covered under the single $100 deductible.

Hrm. Do you mean diagnosis fee?
When you say inspection fee that sounds to me like the inspection they require before authorizing the service plan. My dealer did it for me for free--said they do multi-point inspections all the time (eg for used cars, trade ins) and it's always free.
As for diagnosing problems, most shops I've been to always charge at least their regular rate for it, some with a minimum one hour charge. If it gets approved as a service contract repair item then depending on your contract that cost could be covered by the claim.

Go in there with the policy paperwork in hand and remind them it's a repair covered under the warranty and no diagnostic/inspection fee is involved. IIRC, there is a direect customer assistance number on your warranty card that you can call for issues like this.

I had a sort of similar issue recently. The new service writer kept telling me the front axles weren't covered on my AWD Charger. I showed him the contract that specifically listed them as a covered item. He then showed me his computer screen that said "not covered". I then pointed out the fact to him that VIN of the car he was looking up WAS NOT MY VIN!!! He then double checked and he had "accidentally" put in a totally different VIN because he mispelled my name slightly. Whether it was an accident or on purpose thinking I was a sucker, I confronted him loudly enough that he then input the correct info and lo and behold! my car's axles were covered. He seemed actually rather miffed that I called him on the issue. That's when I started to think it was on purpose to try to get me to pay for an obviously covered repair. (I miss my old service writer there. He recently retired and this guy took over)

What does the Maxcare Contract indicate Inspection Fees?

My dealer, who is very reputable, always tells me the same thing, which is that the diagnosis fee is $X and if it's covered under the warranty you only pay the $100 deductible.
That's actually a common sense response. I've always made sure whatever was on my list of issues, I had previously double checked to make sure it would be a covered item. The peeling clearcoat on the calipers might be considered cosmetic on a brake part and not covered, versus if it was on a body panel.

Yes, they called it inspection, since I told them what to look at. If I went in and said, "I have a misfire, find it", I'd understand diagnosing for sure. Funny, I developed this odd oil leak (under the driver's cradle mount) since last Thursday. When I added it to my list, he did not want another $160 for that though. I just thought $160 for a minimum of one hour was absurd. My old GM dealer had $60/hour for normal work, and $80 an hour for "technical" work (like using machinery). Since it's in there for other work, they are double/triple billing me in my mind. Thanks for your thoughts people.

They just called back and a "no go" on the calipers since it is only cosmetic. The oil leak under the cradle mount IS the mount itself leaking. Who would have figured there was oil in an engine mount. This will be covered, with my deductible though. Anyone else run across this leaking mount?

Since that was another $160 to "inspect", plus possibly the deductible, and I have new one (much better also) sitting here, I cancelled that part of the visit. The guy actually asked me if I wanted to leave it there apart for 7-10 days and wait for the motor mount part...........

About service depts., a few years ago my wife took her Toyota in because the A/C Was not working. The service dept called her to say the evaporator was rotted out and it would be 1500.00 to repair. I called him back and said don’t touch anything I’m leaving work and will be there in an hour and evaporators don’t rot out on a 5year old car. As I was leaving work he called back and said it was a mistake and it was just an expansion valve. $25 deductible. This is a big Toyota dealer in southwest Chicago suburbs.
