You are correct. Begins when vehicle enters service which is exactly that.

No, I think that it's when it's placed in service for use; at least Cadillac V's that is. I've gotten cars that were never registered and just driven by dealerships. They had to sell the cars as used, but usually offered a longer warranty since it was certified used. I ALWAYS had to wait to get the title from Detroit also, since they didn't have it on hand.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the factory warranty start the day the car is first sold and titled?
Warranty clock starts running when the car is sold and reported to the factory as sold.

It used to be a problem -- but the factory cracked down on this some time back -- dealers in an attempt to gain favor with the factory would "punch" a car -- claim it was sold. To the factory this made it appear the dealer was moving vehicles and the factory likes dealers who move vehicles and extends more favorable terms to these dealers.

The downside is a customer comes in and buys the car but the warranty clock has already started. Odds are the dealer would not tell the new buyer this and depend upon luck the buyer would have no reason to seek warranty work in that time between when the warranty expired and when the buyer believed it was to expire.

Yes in service means when it hits the road. In most cases thats when someone registers it but if a dealer has been using it then that could be the exception. The majority need to be registered first if they havent been used as a demo.
