I searched for anyone else having a similar problem and maybe I used the wrong search terms, but what I am referring to occurs at all throttle settings, not just WOT, and only when the car is either cold or has just been sitting awhile.
It never happens in any other gear and I'm sure others here have experienced it and know what it is, but can someone explain what's happening? Is it trans pressure related or something else entirely?

Thank you in advance.

Happens to me each morning after sitting all night. Only happens once and even in sport mode for the tranny.

Could be "on purpose" to reduce wear/tear on the transmission until the car has been moving under its own power long enough -- at least long enough for the 1-2 shift to occur -- that the transmission fluid has had enough time to fully circulate.

My 2018 Scat Pack was my 1st automatic in decades, followed 2 months later by my 2018 Hellcat.

I forgot that an automatic transmission can have some idiosyncrasies that one has to adapt to and just accept as normal. While I don't recall with either car the 1-2 shift really standing out as being any different from say the 2-3 shift or any other shift I was willing to be a bit forgiving when just starting out. A bit of a lazy 1-2 shift shortly after starting out and not accompanied by any real signs of trouble I would have just noted and then just as quickly forgot about it.

Also, often with both cars -- the Scat Pack to avoid that MDS the Hellcat just well because -- when heading out for say work with the car having sat overnight I'd back out out from my parking space and once pointed foreward put the automatic in manual mode and just let the engine idle and drive the the street in 1st gear. Then on the street upshift at some reasonable RPM and I don't recall there being anything really different in that initial 1-2 shift compared to any other up shift.

Neither transmission manifested any other issues or signs of any problems. 'course, I only owned the Scat Pack 2 months, the Hellcat 33 months, 27.4K miles. Still I experienced nothing that suggested there was a problem.

I don’t notice too much on my Hellcat, but my SRT Jeep has done that since new (2015 with 42,000 miles). I’ve gotten into the habit of putting it in eco mode when it’s cold so it starts in second gear.

Hope you’re not really doing WOT when it’s cold.

My RE does that extremely if that’s a correct way to put it lol. Annoying as hell. My last Hellcat and my SRT before that did not do it. Did I mention how annoying it is?

kills forward momentum--expound..
Feels like you suddenly hit the pause button on acceleration between 1-2 shift when cold. Causes everyone in the car to sort of lurch forward from the momentum of accelerating and suddenly not. Similar to letting off the pedal momentarily but w/o actually letting off. Not a trans slip. Annoying.

I have this same issue. After sitting for a week, I warm the car up and the very first shift is delayed by a second or 2. Every shift after that is perfect.

Hello Rob,
It only happens the first time, after that shifts are flawless. Unless it is indicative of a bigger issue, I can live with it. Thanks for your interest and advice.

Thanks for all your replies. I certainly don't hit it hard when cold, and really, this occurs even when the car is somewhat warm. Doesn't happen when hot, but if the car has been sitting awhile, it will do it again, but only the first 1-2 shift.
If there's a fix, I'm all in. I'll talk with the dealer and see what they find.

Please let me know what the dealer says to you. I have an appointment but way down the road. My car does the exact same thing as you described
