A few of us were talking about manual and auto transmissions on another thread, and the topic sort of led to first cars.
My first car was a 1961 Dodge Pioneer, possibly the worst looking car ever made. It was a slant 6 with 3 on the tree, but I truly loved that car. As a kid in high school I rarely had much money, so anything that would burn went into the gas tank. Cigarette lighter fluid was a real treat, and as my mom was into horses at the time, we always had isopropropyl alcohol around, so I frequently dumped that in too, not knowing it contained about 30% water. Kerosene when I could find an old can in the garage, and paint thinner was real good stuff as well. It ran without a hiccup. But if I put Texaco regular in, it would knock. Go figure.
When the day came to trade it in on a new 1965 Plymouth Formula S Barracuda, I almost didn't do it. I remember telling my dad that it was sort of like getting rid of your ugly old dog who had never been anything but faithful.
I still remember the licence plate number, and being able to put 4 guys in the trunk and sneak them into the drive in. I miss that old car. What was your first ride?

1969 Camaro light blue metallic with white top and white interior. I loved that car and had it for 12 years, just like most, I regret selling it. I got in a lot of trouble with that car and all the cops in town knew me by name, but they were much more lenient on racing back then. I learned a lot about cars just from learning how to fix it all myself because I couldn't afford to pay someone. I was pretty good at pushing it with help from friends too!o_O I think it got 5 gallons to the mile, not miles to the gallon! LOL. I have enjoyed seeing everyone's pics of their current cars. Great opening thread, looking forward to hearing about others first cars.

First car was a 69 Mustang GT fastback with a 351 Windser 4 speed. Pretty cool for a Junior in High School.

Blue with Black Hood, Everyone wanted to ride in it and had a blast with that car. That was my first taste

for speed and has been in my blood ever since.

In a few weeks, months? It will be just like back then, only better.

This will be my first Dodge and Mopar brand.

Technically my first car was 76 Datsun B210 but the first car I ever owned was a gold 70 Olds W30 442 with the Hurst dual gate shifter. Saw it parked on the same street for weeks while driving my pride and joy B210 <--- joke. One day I finally left a note asking if it was for sale. Days later I notice the note was gone but the car still there so another week went by and I left another note. I got a response from the owner telling me the car was blowing white smoke out the tail pipe and that's why its been sitting for so long. As a young punk kid just out of high school I had little money and was reluctant to buy it after he told me the bad news. I told the owner that I still loved that year Olds but I will have to make monthly payments while I try and fix the smoking issue. So we arranged a payment schedule and I was about to send him my first payment when he tells me to meet him at the City Hall courts in the afternoon. Being a naive teenager at the time I figure he wanted to meet at City Hall because I thought it had some legal matter to sort out before selling the car to me. I find out it was nothing like that and that he was LA county sheriff and it was just closer than meeting him elsewhere. He signs the pink slip to over to me and hands it to me and says "Here kid I enjoyed the car since I own it but it seems you truly like the car so just fix it and it's yours!" The 442 was overall in decent shape aside from the motor issue and damage to the rear quarter panel but to this day I've never ever forgotten how gracious a gesture that was.

My first car was a 1994 Silverado Z71 that my parents bought me when I turned 16. I drove it until the transmission fell out then I was given a 1998 Honda Accord about 6 years ago. I knew that I wanted to get a new car but I decided to save my money and wait so that I could buy the car that I wanted, not just the car I needed. Was almost committed to buying a 392 Challenger and heard about this car. Decided it would be worth the wait.

Needless to say I am making quite the upgrade but I look forward to taking my time and learning how to drive this muscle car the way it is supposed to be driven. I dont want to end up like the poor guy in Colorado. I intend on taking a very long road trip when I first get the car so I can get as much seat time as possible.

1973 Mercury Capri (yellow) - pic below for those who don't remember it. It was actually pretty quick: I ended up blowing an engine and still remember (37 years ago) the trip to the junk yard with my dad where we found another '73 totally smooshed from the rear bumper to the front seat, but totally intact forward of there - so we were able to replace the engine. Eventually, I replaced her with a 1980 Spitfire (fun but never again)... Like many of you: man - I wish I still had that Capri today; it was a great car!

Bought the 1st one when I was fourteen & took it out every time my parents where in town. That 75 Fire Chicken was my pride & joy. Pop's put a lot of work into that car & in the end was painted black. Came home from school one day to find out he had used it as trade in for a newer car for work. But even back then I knew money was tight & the old man's ability to get to work kept food on the table... When I turned 17 & times were a little better that 72 Camaro, on the bottom, got found in a parking lot one night with my buddies in town. For $700 or $800 bucks that rust bucket found it's way back with me. My dad, with the help of a neighbor got sucked into another project from hell. But those two guys, despite of me getting in the way, did a hell of a job on that car!

My first car was a 1977 Dodge Arrow, it was sooo beat up, and I loved it! A faded, banana yellow. I had forgotten about the fact that my first car was a Dodge until this thread.

The funny part is something like 28 years later, I still have those license plates hanging in my garage. With a little search I could probably find the receipt & protecto plate for that Camaro...

My first car was a 1969 MGB GT, it cost $600. I loved that car, although it was VERY unreliable. Fun to drive, and I loved the looks of it, almost like a tiny Aston Martin DB5, but I had to work on it, every week, just to keep it on the road. It was pretty peppy too, if you kept the twin SU carbs synchronized just right and put in 104 octane boost and had the timing advanced just right. It was much less common than the convertible versions, and is downright rare, these days. I owned mine back in the early eighties, when such cars weren't considered at all special. Here are pic's, which I scanned from old glossy snapshots so they aren't very clear
