Doing the first oil change. Not to bad of a job on your back. Although Race Ramps make it allot easier. Putting the Viper filter on. Also my oil filter and oil cooler lines for sure had residual oil on them like most have posted. The factory oil filter was the 899 ,and boy was it tight. Also installed a magnetic oil plug from HHP. Last thing I drained the oil cooler as well. I let everything drain for awhile. Seems like both cooler and pan would drip forever. I put 7.5 quarts and I am still half in the hash marks on the stick? Leave it there and leave it for expansion when the oil heats up. Thoughts?

Also the oil was a tinge milky like a light Carmel. Smelt of fuel. So I think it’s good to change the first oil early. I imagine a tone of stop starts from the factory to the dealer. Just my opinion

7 qts is usual.

The dipstick has a part number stamped on it. You confirm it's a 7qt stick.

Consider an oil analysis @ Blackstone Labs.

I plan on doing my first oil change as soon as I hit 500 miles, concerned about DIY oil change documentation. Would 5 or 6 digital photos of oil change, a photo of the receipt for 7 quarts of oil + filter, and a photo of odometer reading be enough documentation for warranty purposes?
Is there a Mopar or Dodge website to log/email the docs to? Thanks

I don’t know about a website to document your maintenance ,but I think if you keep your receipts and I keep the box top of the filter should be fine.

I’ll have to check the dipstick. I put 7.5 in it and after it sat for about 30 minutes I checked it again and it’s full on the hash marks. I guess it takes a long time for oil to drain back into the pan on these. When I drained the pan and cooler I waited about a half hour and there was still a slow drip. I have seen people post they let their cars drip over night. Who knows I think if you just keep a good maintenance schedule and use the approved items you should be fine.

I would be a little concerned if the oil was milky light caramel color but maybe that's normal for the first oil change.

Is there a Hellcat symbol stamped into the oil pan? If so, I don't think I've noticed that on my oil pan.

My oil was black at 500 miles and it took exactly 7 quarts to refill to the full line.

Oil I would say very light Carmel ,but did have a strong fuel odor. Yes there is a Hellcat on the pan.

I personally wouldn't wait a long time before doing the next oil change to confirm that your oil looks normal. Also make sure your drain pan is cleaned out so that doesn't skew your results.

I'll check my pan next time I'm changing the oil. That's a strange place for a Hellcat when nobody will see it but still it's pretty cool.

This was my oil at 500 miles for comparison sake. The measuring cup is what came out of the oil cooler. I sent a sample off and created a thread for it in case you are interested. Oil Analysis of Factory Fill on 2022 Hellcat Redeye at...

Yours looks a tinge darker then mine was. I send my oil to Blackstone labs on my Ecodiesel Ram. They are pretty good. Keep in mind that first sample doesn’t say much because it will be high on all metals from breaking in usually. The third and forth oil change you can start to see if any trends are rising.

I would still keep a log or a notebook with writing down the date and mileage for everything you do along with stapling or gluing the receipts to the opposite page, keeps everything neat and in order and this is what your Owner's Manual tells you to do.

I buy the oil and filter at the dealer so it’s documented through them

Isn't new oil light-light Carmel??????
Good point. I agree that new oil can have that color but it's clear. I guess I was assuming opaque milky consistency when he referred to caramel color. He didn't really provide a great picture of the oil itself.

This is what I envisioned with his description of the oil.

As is my SOP for my new vehicles, I had the oil changed early in my Hellcat at around 500 miles, then again at 2K miles then at 5K miles and every 5K miles or 6 months thereafter. The 1st two oil changes don't count towards the factory called for oil changes. With Dodge the 1st is scheduled at 6K miles or 6 months and that applies to all oil changes thereafter.

Had I done the oil changes myself -- and I have for other new cars but not since 2009 -- I would have documented the changes but just to keep my service records complete.

No my oil wasn’t like that. I know my picture wasn’t the best because of the glare. It was probably that color but it was completely translucent. It was clean oil I’m not worried at all. I just wanted to share that it had a fuel odor and the color matched a typical oil that was rich in fuel. I am assuming it is from lots of starts and stops coming from the factory then on and off the trailer then in and out of the shop at the dealer. Then for me in and out of the detail shop etc etc. so for me I’m glad I changed it early at 500. Now that I have it every time I drive it will get to operating temp and burn off all the moisture fuel etc. just wanted to put my two cents in the ring for others with new rides. This subject comes up quite often.
