So today at the wholesale dealer auction we attend weekly there was a red loaded no roof modded 2020 Super Stock. 8k miles, aftermarket blower, pullies, all kinds of red aftermarket covers/gadgets, even the blower cover is red (barf) under the hood, loudest annoying exhaust, claimed 1000hp. Someone went to town on it and probably got bored. Highest bid was $78k for a pretty rare 1/600-ish car that if stock would surely have brought another $10k minimum in the current crazy market imo. Modding and killing the warranty pretty much sealed the deal imo. Not many hands up at bidding time, someone lost a bunch of cash on that one.

Because stock Hellcats don't run 9's.
True, if you want a 9 sec time slip that bad, your going to have to pay. I’d rather mod a stock car myself if 9 sec pass was my goal. That way I know what’s what. I still would not want someone else’s modded car. To many unknown variables in most cases.

But I also realize, if I mod, I’m killing resale. So mod away, just don’t expect to get your investments back.

That guy was on a facebook group trying to sell that car for 100k and got more laughs than anything.
Was thinking someone might recognize the car here. Ya not sure why people think theyre going to recoup the mod investments without being attached to a celebrity or famed tuner/racer.
It actually sold for $78k with an ‘if’ bid. As in the seller was prob not the actual owner and had to make a call afterward to see if the owner would cut it loose for that low or not. It wouldnt be a final sale until the “if” bid was accepted.
EDIT: Sale price was accepted.

If you can wait around for the right buyer, it’s probably not an issue. Either way, mods only add value to someone looking for that kind of car. See plenty of people posting their HC’s for sale stressing “stock” but that doesn’t mean it hadn’t been beat to hell and received regular maintenance lol you can have a rough 1k miles on a car…

Thing is modded with tunes/pullies etc. greatly amplifies the odds of being beat to hell over a stock one. Hence the gun shy buyers mostly wanting stock. Not to mention more stock ones will still have an intact warranty. Yeah of course mods can add to the value for that one needle buyer in a haystack, but you’ve now immensely limited your customer base to a very small pool. Look no further than the low sale price of the car at the auction. That car if stock would have brought more money without question.

Given two identical cars (same model, trim, mileage, year, and color), but one bone stock and the other with performance modifications, the modified car will bring less at auction, less on trade, and will be more difficult to sell privately. The one occasional exception to this rule is when the modified car is a variant of an internationally recognized performance house like Hennessy, Saleen, Braubus, etc.

I did a search for Hennessey on this forum. I think a lot of people are unaware of the problems. The vast majority of posts are positive and from people looking to either have their car done by them or looking to copy their performance packages to achieve the same results at lower cost. The most common complaint is about Hennessey's pricing. If there is anything working right at Hennessey, it appears to be their public relations department.
