Ordered my HC RE WB Challenger on 2.19.22 from Koons.
They gave me a VON and it was in D status. I checked back this morning and now I’m in C. WTF? How does it go backwards? Anyone had this happen?

Easy answer here would be if they have something like a parts delivery interruption. Someone in D is scheduled with parts availability. Think of it like being available for scheduling. If something happens and the parts don't arrive, the car gets put back until the parts show up. While it isn't normal, bouncing back and forth in the process isn't unheard of. You'll see this most during pre-build, and during inspection. If the car fails inspection, it too will be reverted to an earlier code as it goes back for more work.

I wouldn’t worry too much. If it makes you feel better, I ordered wayyyyy back in November 13th (with Koons) and started in D statues and even went to D1 and today I checked with the dealer and they said I was in C. Go figure

I posted about this in the Hellcat status thread - read through the last 10 pages or so if you want some valuable info and a gauge of what to expect moving forward.

As for your order, I’d bet dollars to donuts that your status change is a direct result of what I posted about earlier today. Long story short, they’re having problems with the vendor that makes their WB panels. For some reason, they got a bad batch and fitment has been less than fantastic, so most of the parts are being rejected and sent back. The vendor’s working on getting replacements, but that takes time. This is why NB orders have been flying off the line while many WB/JB orders are stalled or even moving backward in status progression. Guys that were scheduled for builds in the near future (like me) are seeing ESDs moving back by a week or more in many cases.

No big deal. It’ll come.

I ordered an SS from them on 2/19 as well and few days later I was in D status and few days after that I checked was told, it’s in C now. I’m back to D status as of 3/28 and still in D as of today..
