I figure someone here has done garage floor coatings before. When I was in the military we called it PRC, but I think it's just called epoxy coating in the hardware stores.

Basically, it's that multi-step stuff that you throw some base layer down, then paint it and add some paint flakes if you want to give it a speckled look, then finish it off with a thick layer of epoxy.

Has anyone done one (or several) of these and how hard are they to do? I have a 2 car garage but it's kind of narrow (late 70s construction) and I really want to do this to mine. I am familiar with doing things myself and can typically handle just about anything but this seems like it may be easy to mess up. Thoughts? Hire a pro? Or is it really as simple as just "painting" your garage floor with multiple layers?

I want to do something like the photo below except I plan on putting a big Jeep vinyl sticker or painting a Jeep logo in the center prior to putting down the epoxy top coat....maybe do some Rubicon logo or Rubicon font-inspired lettering type of thing.

Lastly, what about maintenance? I don't plan on waxing my garage often (or ever....)....is it going to look like **** if it's not maintained every couple of months?

I did mine myself the first time, but that stuff is unforgiving and I had a problem when I installed it. My roller pole broke and I didn't have a spare. I tried to hand roll out the epoxy but I couldn't do it fast enough before it dried. It ended up looking streaked and irregular. I ended up paying a pro to come in and strip the floor, resurface and etch the concrete. Then, they used a stuff called polyurea to coat the floor. It looks and smells like epoxy. They put on a thick coat and then they toss an enormous amount of flakes on it. Once set, they clean up the excess flakes and seal it with a non-skid top coat. The end result feels like textured stone. I paid around $6,000 for a 32'x24' garage. Had I succeeded in my epoxy job, it wouldn't have looked as good, but I'd have only spent about $800 in materials:

I just called this week to get a quote. I'm in Central Florida and they wanted 4k for 480sqf. The process they use is impressive, but not sure I want to drop the coin. I may just do a center section of the garage where the car goes in Racedeck Flooring.
