Hi there. I'm embarking on a project to improve the look of my 2-car garage (it's about 400 sqft).
At first, I was dead set on epoxy coating the floor,
but the price I was quoted (I only got one quote so maybe I just got a really high one) was more than I wanted to spend at about $2600.
So I've turned my attention to garage flooring tiles. At first, I was looking at the Sears tiles that are about $2/sqft,
but I read reviews that indicate that they warp easily from sunlight.
So then I started looking at SwissTrax, which seems to be about double the price.
So my question is basically: Does anyone have experience with garage flooring tiles,
in particular the Sears or SwissTrax brands?
If so, any nuggets of wisdom?
Anything I should be keeping in mind or watching out for as I start this project?
Bonus points if someone can tell me if the epoxy estimate I got is normal, unusually high, or unusually low.
If it matters, I'm in Northern VA/DC area -- so,
hot and humid in summer and reasonably cold and sometimes snowy in the winter.

I bought my garage floor tile from RUBBERFLOORINGINC.COM. They are made by the same company who makes race deck flooring, but a little lighter duty and when I bought them about 1/2 the cost,

I’ve had them for 5 years and they still look new. You can see in this pic I protect them from the lift and jack stands with plywood or metal plates. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

This floor was $4,800. 20 year warranty against cracks, chipping, peeling, etc. This isn't epoxy though, it's something called polyurea. It looks and feels like stone. The long and short of garage floors is you get what you pay for. You can do an epoxy floor yourself if you acid etch it and roll on epoxy out of a bucket bought at home deport. Throw some color chips in it for fun. That'll run you around $1,000 in materials and you may or may not screw it up.

Professionally applied, epoxy is a solid median product. It isn't cheap, and it isn't too expensive. The results are average over the life of the garage. It will scratch, it will fade, and it will need touchups every year or two. This can be avoided by buying a topcoat sealant. These come in different varieties from anti-skid, to things like extra durable and gloss, semi-gloss, or satin topcoats. If you go that route, probably add 20-30% more to your initial price to do the epoxy. Tiles look nice, but they have drawbacks too. Some of them can stain, some of them don't allow fluids to drain through, and others don't. It all depends on what you need the floor to do. The cheap "playground foam" tiles are a non-starter. These are usually used for play rooms and workout areas. Avoid that stuff. The more durable proper garage floor tiles can be had cheap (I use that term relatively because to cover my 800sq.ft. garage in $2 square tiles would still cost me $1,600). The cheap tiles don't fit together right, they can flex, peel up and may or may not be able to hold the weight of a heavy vehicle over a long duration. It's not uncommon to start getting wagon tracks in cheap tiled floors as they warp from driving over the same spot regularly.

The expensive tiles do very well. They're just... expensive. $8-$12 per sq.ft. on some of them.

Unless you do the work yourself, the garage floor is going to cost money. If you go an epoxy route, or a similar compound like I did, there's also a bit of cost in the prep work. Of the price I paid, about $1,200 of it was grinding and prepping the concrete.

8 days have past since my new polyaspartic garage floor was laid. Installer said we can walk on it two days following completion, place permanent items 4 days post install, and drive on it 6 days post. Just to be certain, I waited 8 days to move back in and park on it.

Still working on moving back in, and it simply looks amazing from every angle. So very glad I made the change. My daughter is happy because she picked the colors. More importantly, my wife is happy because she says I’ll finally stop bitching about the old flooring. Win win situation for all of us!

I believe it, its just going to be a serious pita getting all of the crap out of the garage and leaving it on the driveway for the better part of a week, including my cars.

It sucked; however, we took the opportunity to “spring clean” a week prior getting rid/donating quite a bit of stuff. I put my hellcat in storage so as to not have to worry about it out. The POD worked out great, too!

Who did it? (I'm in southeast Michigan too)
Holding up good?

We had our garage done like 4 years ago and it's already chipping/peeling up in a couple spots (from the tires I think). :(

It’s only two years old but still in great shape. No chips or pealing. The company was Epoxy floors and painting out of Macomb. The customer service sucked but the work was good and price was great. They ground the floor and patched all cracks during prep and finished in 1 day.

Hello. New here. Wondering what people have done to their garage flooring and if you like it ?

Paint ?
Epoxy ?
Vinyl Tile ?
Snap in tile ? (Race Deck)

Trying to figure out a direction and leaning towards Snap in tile but wanted to hear from others on their experiences ?
