You ceramic coated the PPF?

I've heard of people doing that but don't understand why. Thought the PPF was supposed to be the protectant and gloss (if you get the self healing good stuff).

I'm honestly curious. With the cost of this I wonder why not just have car recleared with some good clear. I forget the name of it but I was talking with a high end painter and he was talking about a clear that's basically permanent and SUPER hard once it fully cures. He showed me and it made the color look super deep and the shine was like a mirror. Amazing stuff and for what yall pay for all these coatings I always wonder why not go that route.

The front bumper, hood, flares, behind the rear tire, trunk lid and wing are PPF. The PPF guards the paint from rocks and other stains that may arise. The ceramic on top gives it another layer and makes extremely hard for anything to stick to it. For example if the car is clean but gets covered in pollen. A good rain will wash it all off and leave it as is you had just washed it.

I personally did the PPF for protection from rock chips. Otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten it.

Look up a BAD ceramic job and you can then see it is like a hard clear coat. When it’s done right you can’t see it is there.

Also you need a specific ceramic for PPF.

For the people on the fence about getting ceramic here are a couple pictures. The pictures are NOT filtered or altered in any way. The paint looks way better with the color alive. FYI I paid way under $1,000 as the car was new.

I'm a wax fan, mainly because you can't beat the depth a stacked wax provides. Cermaics tend to give a high gloss surface shine, but they generally lack depth.

My Hellcat was the same color. Like yours, my images below are also with no filter. I used Zymol WaxID ($120). For their WaxID, Zymol has you fill out a questionnaire and they hand make the wax for your specific paint color and needs. I wanted a wax with ultra-wet looking properties that was hydrophobic and proof against water spots... and lasted at least 6 months. The below was the result. Top is in direct sun, the below was when clouds blew in about 10min later:

And, about 6 months later on the same coat of wax (vignette filter on this one). Photo was taken around 7pm, Hellraisin changes color depending on the time of day ;)

you can do ceramic over ppf
I didn’t know that was a thing. I thought the car gets paint corrected and the PPF applied Then no wax necessary as the PPF is the top layer and self healing. I guess the coating on the PPF can’t hurt though.
I’m getting PPF done on mine and will skip cermic coating for now. Who knows maybe one day I’d get it on the PPF?

PPF isn't self healing, you may get some minor scuffs out but it will tear, it's protected my paint for sure but the damage can't be buffed out. Mines about 5 years old so I'll be going back this summer and getting it removed then doing the whole ceramic or wax, there are also the nano graphene products but don't know much about them. It has it's +/-.
