Curious what cylinder is the bad one? You are most likely going to need a core to supply them or pay a core charge. I had cylinder 2 and 7 give me issues. Depending on how bad and how long this went on for your going to most likely have to at the very least hone the block to remove the distortion in the problem cylinder from heat from blow by. I just went through this, my block is waiting on pistons at the moment.Going to be upgrading to an hhp short block. My current short block has a possible bad upper ring. Still did put down 730Rwhp 740tq. What are the going rates on these blocks going for these days. This also has a pinned crank.
Not sure yet. I'm on the fence of doing a leak down test first. I did make a post about when it was on the dyno all of a sudden a bunch of black smoke started coming out of the tailpipes. I was able to drive it home but every time I hit the gas bunch of smoke came out so it sounds like an upper ring in my opinion. But we'll find out sooner or later. I just put a deposit down at hhp for a block. I was running a 2.65 upper at 5,000 FT elevation. Not sure if it was possibly too much boost. Definitely tuner error I believe.Curious what cylinder is the bad one? You are most likely going to need a core to supply them or pay a core charge. I had cylinder 2 and 7 give me issues. That SUCKS, sorry to hear. Yes, I’d do a leak down test before condemning it, maybe you got lucky snd it’s something else? Blueish smoke rings, black smoke??? Maybe you melted the cats and clogged it’s running capped and rich as hell? You notice a big gain in boost? If yes you most likely have a exhaust clog and cats first suspect if you still have them in place. Many tuners turn cat protection off and it’s easy to overheat and melt them shut. Not sure yet. I don't know if I want to mention any names right now my car is sitting at their shop. But they're out of Rio Rancho New Mexico.Who was the tuner ?
I don't have cats. Tuner did say it was running exceptionally rich from the previous tune he did via street tune. He told me to come back and get it on the dyno to get a more accurate tune and that's when this happened. If it's a short block I'm just going to throw a hhp cam in there too. I don't know any other recourse to go if it is tuner fault. I was thinking maybe their commercial insurance can cover it. Car was running fine before I brought it to them. That SUCKS, sorry to hear.
