My buddy sold his 2012 Challenger and gave me his set of 20 Gorilla Black Wheel Locks P/N 96643BC 14mm x 1.5. They'd look really good on my stock Lowgloss Blk Wheels. And they seem to fit fine, same size as MOPAR OEM lugs. But I've heard stories about aftermarket lug nuts being a safety concern.
Anyone?
Attaching pics of Gorilla & MOPAR OEM.
Thanks!

Ive had black on my last 4 chargers but I found the gorilla ones always rusted. I don’t think any other safety issues but rust isn’t good either

Interesting! Well he's had these on his Challenger for about a decade. No rust that I can see.
But thanks for the heads-up!

I don’t know why but every set I’ve had rusted . The set I currently have I took off my scat and used on my new cat going on 2 years no issues but they aren’t gorilla. I don’t remember the brand off hand I’d have to look back.

There are several different black coating options on lug nuts.
PVD chrome is arguably the toughest, what Mcgard uses.
electro-plated chrome, black chrome, black oxide, anodized, and simply painted are the other usual options you'll encounter. Not sure which the Gorillas use. The different coatings will fare differently in inclement weather conditions, of course.

As for safety, as long as they have the correct threads and a 60 degree taper, preferably with a bulge cone (so there's more contact area for the softer aluminum wheels) they should be fine.

The OEMs are actually pretty poor quality IMO--they are a cap plug design--they are actually an 18 or 19mm open-ended nut with a 22mm cap applied on top, which is easy to damage or destroy with too short of a socket or an impact.

those are the ones I got actually. just found the old order on amazon. it says they are triple nickel chrome plated black... whatever that means, they seem to be holding up better than the gorillas.. part is 64074#. the other thing I noticed about gorilla if I recall they were 21MM not 22MM , the mcgards are the same size as OEM (22MM) so no need for additional other sized sockets.
