Please tell me you didn't pay $3k+ for this.
Why not? When you want the best you spend the money, some people can afford the best and some can't. The quality of there product is second to none. Please tell me you didn't pay $3k+ for this.
We're driving around in $100k Durangos, so it isn't about affording anything. It's about taking a vehicle that is already far louder than average and making it even louder just for the sake of making it louder, because it doesn't increase power or performance. Why not? That reminds me of a story. My Hellcat was a mostly stock car... CAI and dress-up bits aside. I was at a car show where my car took best in class. After the trophies were handed out, several people came back by and wanted to let me know how much my Hellcat sucked (this was a Mustang club show where I won the Mopar category). One comment I took offense at was, "I can't believe this car trophied. It's on a stock exhaust, so quiet."We're driving around in $100k Durangos, so it isn't about affording anything. Eh, around here we have automated intersection cameras that just zaps your license tag if you go through an intersection on a red light. Summons in the mail. We also have an automated cell phone detection camera system in testing that can tell if a driver has an active cell phone within the sphere of the steering wheel (IE someone using one hand on a cell phone, the other on the steering wheel). It uses some form of advanced AI/machine learning to determine if the phone is in use or not. I'm not entirely sure how it works (even though I was the project manager for the software and reporting side of that system). But I do know that once it works and is certified, it should be able to identify someone illegally driving with a cell phone and will be able to snap a photo of the use of the phone combined with a follow-on license tag image that will be forwarded to a human analyst for verification. Then, they'll be sent a summons to court to receive their $150 fine (or you know, try and plead innocent). Florida is pretty hot on the cell phone while driving thing as distracted driving is the number one killer of children and teens under the age of 21, and cell phones are the number one cause of distracted driving related accidents. IIRC, at the end of this month, our new law goes into effect that makes driving with a cell phone a primary offense, meaning officers can enact traffic stops for it and issue tickets, where in the past, it's always been a secondary violation.Exactly. And to extrapolate on that line of thought, that's why I find the Plaid so compelling. I have zero need to make noise and draw attention to myself, but when it's time to go fast, bye bye. There is no way to go fast in a Hellcat without making a bunch of noise and drawing attention. My first week of ownership I'm approaching a light that turns yellow. I give it half throttle to scoot through the light. 10 seconds later, unmarked patrol car behind me with lights on. Says he was sitting at the intersection, looking down at his computer and heard me, but couldn't confirm I went through a red light (I hadn't) so got off with a warning. Had I been in an econobox, or an EV, I could've been going twice as fast and he never even would've looked up. I've said it a million times, there is zero upside to a loud exhaust on a street car.
I was looking for a different sound on my super stock. I was looking for a little louder at wot and a bit more noise at idle but zero drone. After a bunch of research I went with AWE and I was absolutely amazed how well this system sounds and fits. Louder at wot a little louder at idle and amazingly less sound just cruising down the highway. I wasn't expecting a power gain but it does feel a little stronger up top. I went with the stock tips to keep the stock look. I'm still amazed on the fit and finish. We're driving around in $100k Durangos, so it isn't about affording anything.
