In the span of a week I've had two separate motorists give me the finger for reasons I can't figure out. Last week I passed some tall skinny kid riding a scooter. I was coasting in neutral on the downgrade and glided in front of him but I didn't cut him off. I even used my turn signal. When I checked my rear view I saw the kid primly extending his middle finger. I didn't get upset because the whole image of a kid who was way too tall for the scooter he was riding and giving me the finger was visually funny.

This morning I attempted to move into the passing lane because a Honda civic sedan in front of me was traveling slowly, like the driver was looking for a street name or address. The driver seemingly took offense because as I started pulling into the passing lane, he jinked his bright red 4 banger into the passing lane, almost cutting me off. I stayed in the original lane and when I passed the Honda, the driver hard-glared at me and shot me the bird. I just smiled, shook my head, and returned a boy scout three-finger salute.

I think I understand. If I rode a two wheeled scooter, or a four-wheeled scooter with doors, I might anonymously hate someone driving a Hellcat.

Some 2-wheeled riders are pretty sensitive to other vehicles entering space they feel they are entitled to. I have this to some extent from my time spent on motorcycles.

The space between my vehicle and the vehicle ahead of mine "belongs" to me. It happens once in a while but I'm never happy when it does -- even when I'm in a car -- when someone decides last minute to move (even if it is a "glide") into this space. It forces me to let off the gas maybe even brake to ensure I maintain a safe margin of distance between my vehicle and the intruder's vehicle.

While I won't flip off the driver of the vehicle that came into my space that doesn't mean I'm ok with it. But nothing I can do but just take the necessary action to ensure I maintain a level of safety. One more vehicle between me and my destination is not the end of the world.

The Honda driver was probably focused on where he was going, that is looking for a street name/address (is it me or are street name signs and house numbers/building numbers getting smaller?) and you moved over into the passing lane about the time he spotted what he was looking for.

When I come upon someone driving like the way you describe the Honda driver I have to remind myself to be patient. About the time I think it would be ok to pass the driver will decide that's the time he wants the same lane to make a left hand or u-turn and a collision is the result. I see this happen plenty of times when I watch compilation videos of car accidents.

I don't get the finger often enough to recall the last time. I get thumbs up -- this in my Hellcat or now in my Scat Pack -- once in a while. Or once in a while I'll get a "Nice car" directed to me. The worst thing someone said to me when I had the Hellcat is "Is that a Demon?". When I said "No" there was a look of disappointment on the person's face.

Tried to go around a guy doing 5-10 below the speed limit and he promptly yanked his car into the oncoming lane to block me. Was glaring in his rear view mirror waiting for a confrontation or something. With a red light approaching I wasnt about to see what kind of nutjob he really was so I turned off and went a different way. Might've been a yahoo packing and it's not worth it. For the life of me I dont understand why people going slow hate being passed so much.

I get hangers and phones, never the beginnings of rage….is there anything offensive on the car?
Nope. Pitch black, no decals, no stripes. Really nothing to delineate its a Hellcat other than the front fender cathead emblems.
