My car is in the shop after the nose was backed into. The bumper cover had a torn tab or two so it is getting replaced As well as several other pieces.
What I need help on is... after tearing it down, the body shop says the right fender has a slight crease in it. Must be minor because I didn't see it. They claim that technically it should be fixed or replaced but that i might not want to mess with it to keep from painting into the door.

What would you do?

if he didn't point it out, would you have noticed it? If your answer is No, leave it alone.

I'd have to see it in person to make a decision. I'd say if it bothers you fix it. If not leave it... These cars are far from perfect and if it's that minor you might be better off leaving it as is.

I wonder why they have to paint into the door. The car is new and they should be able to match the paint well enough to not need to blend into the door. Is it Phantom Black? That maybe why... The dark metallics are sometimes tough that way.

If they don't blend, there will be a sharp difference in the fender and the door, almost guaranteed. No matter how good your match is, it's nearly always a shade or so off. The eye can pick up the difference, in fact it sticks out like a sore thumb (what does that mean anyway? I've had a number of sore thumbs and they never stuck out....:D). Anyway, blending tricks the eye and really unless you're a painter, you'd never notice, and a good blend even a painter won't pick out right away.

It's almost impossible to paint a panel and not see it if you don't blend. Technically the hood should be blended as well, because that will be old paint vs. new, but hoods lie flat and have the benefit of a) people not generally seeing it, and b) bright sun shining directly onto it.

In my experience it depends on the color. I've had repairs done without blending and they were perfect. I have the eye and so does the body shop I use.

my sublime bumper repair turned out mediocre, but i was told darker colors you can never see the repairs

if your not going to repair it make sure you claim it and keep the $$

for my repair they mailed me a check and let me do as i wished with it......had a check in 3 days

why not claim it....if its damage its damage... even if you choose not to repair it you should still get the $$ for it....

they did no blending on my bumper redo.....i was told blending on lighter colors shows as a gloss and you would see where they ended the blend...on dark colors i was told blends dont show

i know you will now get 5 people telling you the opposite

if the damage doesnt show take the $$ and run
