The little green thingy in the top left of an avatar indicates a user is online now. The [OP] means that this person is the “original poster” of the thread you are reading now.

One of the most useful links I use is “ACTIVE TOPICS”. This link helps you see where all the current discussions are happening across all discussion forums.

Another useful link is “WATCHED THREADS”, followed by “Show all watched threads”.

Click on the top right corner number of a post to capture a link to that specific posting.

Click the REPLY link at the bottom right of a post to quickly quote and reply to that post.

When typing a response, use the @ symbol to tag someone. In this case, after I type @apr, a pop-up appears showing april77. Click on the pop-up to complete the entry.

When viewing a list of thread titles, you can copy that title, including hyperlink, by highlighting and copying the title. To highlight the title, point mouse just to the RIGHT of the title, hold left mouse button down and drag left. Once highlighted, then you can copy it (using a menu or CTRL-C).

You can paste that hyperlinked title directly into a reply.

For what it's worth, be more generous with “like” (versus other ratings) to help improve others' trophy points.

If you post something accidentally, you can EDIT it or DELETE it.

You can edit the title of a thread that you created. So, if you make a mistake, you can go correct it. Or if you just want to make the title more meaningful and descriptive, you can do that too.

To start a private conversation with one or more members, point to Inbox on the upper right corner of your browser window and click on Start a New Conversation.

Another method is to click someone’s hyperlinked name or avatar, then click on Start a Conversation.

If the hellcat.org sreach facility is not powerful enough to find what you are looking for, then try google advanced search (Google Advanced Search).

To hide your birth date data from public view, point to your username next to the inbox, then click on Personal Details (or Privacy).

After that, then scroll down and uncheck "Show day and month of birth".

Then scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on "SAVE CHANGES".

Resizing a Picture in Windows. The purpose of this instruction is for taking a high res pic and making a smaller version for posting on a website.

For Windows PCs only. . . It's time to teach you to fish. I just want to say, there are about 1000 ways to resize a file. Some easier, some harder. This method (or something very similar) will work for just about any version of Windows.

To resize a picture for posting, do these steps.

(1) Use Windows Explorer to find your file. Once you find your picture, make a copy of it so that you do not destroy the original file.

(2) Use Windows Paint to edit the new file. You can do this by right-clicking the file and selecting "Open with" then "Paint".

(3) Depending on your version of Windows, Paint will look different. Using the menus, find something called "attributes" or "properties". This example shown here is from Windows 7.

(4) This is NOT where you change the size. The only reason we went here is to see how big the picture is. In general, for posting to a website, a good rule of thumb is that the width and the height should be no more than about 1000 pixels (give or take). In most cases, there is no need to be exact. In this case here, the image is way too wide. I am going to resize it from 100% down to 15% to get the image width in the right range. Click Cancel. We will go to another place to change the size.

(5) On the Home Tab, click Resize.

(6) Change "Horizontal" from "100" to "15". Since "Maintain aspect ratio" is checked, "Vertical" will automatically change to 15 as well. This is what you want, so click OK.

(7) Last step - save your file!!

Within each forum section, there is a "POST NEW THREAD" button near the top right of the screen. I will add a visual instruction for this.

To post a new thread. . .

(1) Click on FORUMS.

(2) Then scroll down and click on the appropriate FORUM SECTION, such as “SRT General Hellcat Discussion”.

(3) Click on the "POST NEW THREAD" button.

(4) Fill in the thread details. When you are ready to post the thread, then click the "CREATE THREAD" button.

(5) On more thing. . . After uploading a file, if you want the picture to show up large in the thread, click on "FULL IMAGE" next to the icon of your file.

NOTE: After you post your new thread, if something is not right, you can edit it. . . . see the instructions for Edit/Delete Posts and Edit Thread Title.
