It is with a great amount of trepidation and some very tough soul searching that I have made the decision to trade my white 2016 hellcat with 1253 miles and white under black Demon with 6 miles away to the local dealer. Please do not feel bad as this is a good thing as I will just be joining another automotive family and achieving a dream since childhood.
So now a little bit of back story: I am a 60+ year old veteran and never married with no children, my father passed away approximately 6 years ago from cancer may he rest in peace now.
He was on me hard most of the time as I was his caregiver of 5 years plus to get a better car, it was not like I did not have the money. I am a semi retired ASE. Master Mechanic and also a retired due to health issues owner-operator long haul trucker. This actually turned out to be a god send as it let me spend most all of those last 5 years of my father's life traveling around this wonderful planet of ours with him. But one day he had had enough it was time I got a New car, not another used resurrected from the dead better one than I had before car ( I had been using them as stepping stones always moving up) no this was going to be a new to me good car. No more of that junk trash I save form the crusher. He was vehement about it but he had one request he would prefer it was not a used Ferrari or some other exotic that killed me ahead of him, "so much for the 3 million miles with nary a ticket in the Peterbilt before my heart attack retired me". It was then I told him about the Hellcat Dodges coming out soon to be released that were going to be the coolest baddest cars ever built in America 707 BPH. and all the bells and whistles. As a retired engineer from M.I.T. he was intrigued and wanted to see what that could possibly be all about. We were both born with the need for speed gene. So we got on line together on the Dodge site and he helped me design and build my white Hellcat Challenger. I put down a substantial deposit and ordered the 2015 Cat a few days later it would be my first ever new car fully loaded and optioned! Then whoa all the orders with the moon roof were held up for re-engineering then the next thing all Cat orders got put in purgatory because of shady dealers marking them up double and more. Well dad passed on while I was still waiting on the car to be built and delivered it showed up perfect in November 2015 as a 2016 with all of the delays. The dealer had been informed well ahead of time because of dad's passing to do nothing but wash it and standard predelivery checks as this was going to be stored as a time capsule never to be driven by me. I was going to moth ball it my father did not get to give his stamp of approval with the first ride in it and tell me "about time son", I only did it to make him happy that I would be in what he thought was a safer car than the Buick I had! This also turned into a fiasco, the car ended up fully prepped to drive away with the special order window sticker folded up and put in the glove box I was livid, but not going to lose my deposit. This also turned out in my favor as I was lucky enough to get to order a white with black top side Demon because of the Hellcat boondoggle one of only 3 my dealer was allocated. That car has been sitting in my garage with 6 miles on the clock still plastic wrapped with Hell Crate upgrades installed I have never even driven it around the block I do not consider 60 to 70 feet in the driveway in and out of a trailer driving it . My daily beater/driver now is a 2013 Corvette Grand Sport convertible gm test mule and that drop top is as close to riding my 1950 Harley as I can get when I am having days I am unable to kick it to life. That 2 seat drop top is going to stay my DD.weather permitting. Now please do not hate; the Hellcat is awesome and fun will haul 4 people around like on a Disney ride and can be totally unruly at times and a Major handful to play with as some have experienced . Now almost every time I take the Hellcat out some crazy idiot with a Hooptie is wanting to try and race me it has been so not good! I quit counting the wrecks these fools cause years ago, I am just glad I was not involved in them except as a witness to the stupidity. The Demon purchased as an investment for the future and my Challenger Hellcat are both now no longer in my stewardship. Now we get to the reason I am trading them both in. Those 2 cars just let me trade up for a white Lamborghini Huracan all wheel drive coupe with minimal money out of pocket 2 coupes for 1 coupe. A true exotic dream car it's acceleration and top speed quicker and faster than the Hellcat even my Grand Sport can not out corner it. Yes it's 1/4 mile time is slower than the Demon by a few tenths of a second if you can launch the Demon without blowing off the tires, and I know it has less pure horse power than either but the all wheel drive makes up for it with more control and nothing sounds like a v10 or v12 Lambo. high on the revs. When I was growing up in the 70's before I left for the Army there were 2 posters on my wall one was Farrah Fawcett and the other one was a Lamborghini Countach in white with a wing I fell asleep for years dreaming that someday.... Well part of that dream is still possible and today I signed the contract and made a white 2015 Lamborghini Huracan with a wing my reality and a dream come true, the Countach will never be within my reach. My father would be appeased because of the training I got from learning to try and tame that Hellcat. I know I will miss doing smoke offs on the highway at 80 MPH.and up and making cars in the slow lane look like they just went into reverse instantly but I will get over it this is just the next step in the journey of my dream. There is going to be someone very special that gets my very loved Dodge Challengers as their dream cars because they had a poster on their wall and they will be living out their dream.
Have a great day everyone stay safe have lots of fun playing in the Dodge family I have had a lot of fun and have great memories from my time with you all I will just be living my dreams as part of a new and different family. "I still feel the need the need for speed!" CHUCK
