Recently had some tires and wheels installed on my Challenger. On the rear of the car are 20x10.5 HR5 replica wheels from PK auto with some 305/35/20 Nitto NT 555R2s with an offset of 25. Some of you may think I might have gotten the wrong offset but according to the website it was the only option to choose that offset when ordering 20x10.5 wheels. I’ve done my research for a while and thought 305 wide tires with 20x10.5 wheels with a 25 offset would fit like a glove on a Challenger. The shop installed them but ran into an issue because it was rubbing so I had to get a small spacer (¼ of an inch thick) that was temporary until I could figure out my next move.

The next day I took the car to another wheel and tire shop and they modified the inner wheel well by removing some of the plastic area where the rib pokes out and used a tool to shave down that rib a bit for some clearance. I was able to get rid of the spacers which I was glad but some rubbing occurs only during tight left and right turns now especially during U-turns or tight turns in general when the weight of the car shifts over to one side depending on the type of angled turn. The only way for me to avoid the rubbing at the moment is to take it easy on the turns and not have to turn the wheel as much.

The car seems to be fine when going over bumps or getting on it from a dig with no issue but rubs when going at decent speeds on tight turns is the issue that I would like to fix. I have some pictures down below on the work that was done from the shop that modified the inner wheel well. The only thing I can probably think of at this point is maybe having a small sledgehammer to knock down that area where the rib is at to flatten it out more I guess. I don’t know if going at it with a hammer is a smart idea as I don’t know what exactly is behind there. If you guys have any advice on what to do to fix this, I’m all ears and would love to hear feedback. Maybe some of you have rubbed and had gone through this and for some of you maybe you got lucky. Those that have been through this experience and or know what to do, care to share what I can do to fix this issue? Thanks.

Take a sledge and pound those "ribs" flat. Take a heat gun and warm up the liner and massage it flat. You can remove the bottom screw holding the plastic in place, slide the plastic toward the center of the car and screw it in place there freeing up max space without major work. I did this and with a 3mm space have a few mm's clearance.

I'm with you as I thought 305 would fit without much issue. It looks like even with removing some of the fender well it still rubs. Unless your car is a unicorn I think I'll be canceling my order I placed today for 10.5 wheels so I could run the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S that I've also got on order. I'm not OK with spending over $2K on tires (and two wheels) to then have to hack up or rig my car  I, like you spent a good amount of time researching the best tire combo for the car. Only people I saw run into real issues like you are having are those that were lowered.

You needed 21 mm offset wheels, not 25 mm, regardless what the vendor was offering. At this point just run a spacer: you should be OK with up to 6 mm (1/4"); don't try thicker ones. And don't forget to thank the shop that has mangled your plastic wheel well shields: it was absolutely unnecessary (there are descriptions here how to move or shape them so they won't rub without cutting). I suggest you rust-proof the exposed parts and keep an eye on it.

PK Auto 20x11 with a 315/35R20 never rubbed, never an issue...as said above, cheap wheels. You get what you pay for.

Why are ya'll saying "cheap knock-offs" are what caused this. Can someone point me to where their are factory 20x10.5 wheels in the correct offset and style of the 15-17 HC Challengers? I know OP are a different style by they are by no means "cheap" at $350 a wheel. They also say they are German Forged too.

Example of my confusion: Response is "cheap wheels" but you got the exact same brand of wheel.

Yep, just like I said, the OP needed 21 mm offset, not 25...
I find it hard to believe that the manufacturer could mess up the claimed vs actual offset, but who knows. It's easy to measure if the OP has the wheels off; if it doesn't match what was claimed, I'd consider it a reason to request a refund. But I doubt it...

I run the 10.5 wide discount tire Voxx replicas with a 305 nitto DR and had zero rub with the minor liner mod.

I went to a 17x10 with a 315-50-17 and had to mod the ribs and plastic liner....

20x11 PK M392 rims, 305 tires 24mm offset fit fine. I did cut 1/4" off the trailing edge of the the rear liner on the bottom where it was curling inward and barely touched the tires on both cars. Zero issues on an 18 and 19 challenger. That 1mm (25 vs 24) may be your problem. Get the 3mm spacer.

Sounds like good advice appreciate that.

I’m stock height so not lowered but I hear ya man don’t feel discouraged because of my situation. I believe it’s mainly to do with getting the correct offset for your car like some have mentioned here already. Even though I only had a 25 mm offset option, I duno anymore so I’m trying to make do with what I can do to try and fix this.

A 21 mm offset probably would have been better but that was the option for the 20x11 wheels not my 20x10.5 wheels according to PK autos website. Also I’d like to try to stay away from using the spacer as I’ve been told it’s not really suggested especially when tracking the car as it’s away from the hub and launching the car from a dig could be an issue especially with the weight of these cars. Maybe a small spacer like that might not be an issue and I’m not sure but I just kinda want to play it safe but who knows maybe it might have to be required I duno yet.

As far as the what the shop did maybe I wish I would have know that but in one way it did make quite a difference but I will look into protecting it.
