Is the Harman Kardon Option Worth the Money

I ordered a 2023 Challenger on 11/16/22 and did not order the HK option. Is the Harman Kardon a must-have or is the stock audio system adequate? TIA

The regular 6-speaker is more than adequate. Never have or never would go HK. You'll be more than happy with your choice.

And the lack of the HK also allows you to add a spare tire in the bottom area of the trunk if you want.

HK was the only option I chose. I think it's well worth it. Very powerful sound. My wife's stock system in her new JGC sounds awful in comparison.

The HK option is worth the money. In terms of factory sound systems, it's one of the better values out there. Is it a Bang&Olufsen system? No, but it doesn't cost $8,000 either. You can get better on the aftermarket, but if you can stomach people rooting around in your car and drilling holes and what-not, more power to you. The HK has enough bass to rattle the car and sound quality good enough for most people. It's handily better than any stereo ever used in any Ford or GM car.

Must have for me. Always have the music on.
The HK is barely adequate to me. I would probably be disappointed in the alpine.

I ended up ordering instead of buying off the lot in part due to the factory Alpines that seemed to be in any HC sitting on the lot.

HK option is one of the best "bang for your buck" options especially when compared to the underpowered, tinny Alpines

Can't speak for the Charger/ Challenger but having had the Alpine in my '21 TRX and getting the HK in my '22 and to me it's not worth it.....The Alpine was just fine for me
All that said. I’d take an aftermarket system with a 4 channel and a 2 channel amp. With components and twin 12’s which would blow the HK out of the water. Shake tje car to pieces too 😁. A couple 1000 watts would do it. Need a new alternator and maybe a second battery though.

but I plan to keep the JB stock; this isn’t a car I’d hack up.

For me it was a no brainer..I had the Alpine system in my Challenger and it had zero bass. The HK is still not great but it's enough to keep me from putting an Amp + subs in.

You def wont miss it until you hear it. I'd never order one without it now. The difference is the same as AM to FM to me. Is it top of the line? No but I'm not hacking into my brand new car when it can sound pretty damn good stock.

That’s the HK bass compared to an alpine. 😁

I have the alpine in both my 21 jgc and my 22 HC challenger and I will say it sounds much better in the hc.I had a 17 sp challenger with the hk and I was not impressed
i never go past 21 on my volume, never EVER have I blasted the volume and recently you hear a weird tick coming from the speakers certain songs it’s really bad. I’m not sure why I hope it’s just a loose wire since it sounds like multiple locations.
Not worth it to me. I listened to the HK in a Jeep before ordering my ScatPack last year. For the money, I could barely tell the difference between the two. Granted, I understand the vehicles are entirely different with likely different systems.

Is the HK better? Probably, but it would be different if the "base" Alpine system was totally flat and sucked, but it doesn't. I love music and always have something playing (whether it is in the vehicle of throughout the house). I didn't order the HK on my Hellcat build either.
FWIW, I also had an Alpine system in my TRX... again, more than adequate. I don't see paying the extra money in the case either. I think it is more of "you can't miss what you didn't have" sort of thing.

I wonder if there is more than 1 alpine option because it low key sucked in my 2018 Challenger.

I've never been blown away by ANY factory system. Just try and get the least crappy one :)

Interesting and a great point...

I'm fairly certain that the HK came STANDARD on the '18's, before it became one more thing for Dodge to milk more money out of the customers. I don't believe you even had any Alpine system. If you can dig up your VIN I can run the build sheet and you'd know exactly.

"standard Harman/Kardon sound system pumps out 900 watts through 18 speakers "
