I was on the Nitto website and they no longer have the Nitto NT05R tire on their website. Has Nitto discontinued the tire all together or has it just been removed due to the lack of supplies? If the Nitto NT05R is discontinued what is everyone going to run on their Super Stock for the street?

Well that would certainly suck as this will probably be the last last season Im going to get out of mine. It may be time to check out those Toyo 888’s?

Nitto is probably replacing the NT05R with this tire.

That tire isn't even on the same level as the NT05R.

Yeah I didn't believe Nitto's claim that it will 60 ft better than the NT05R either. I'm replacing my 18" NT05Rs with a set of MT ET street SS drag radials for use on Hot Rod Drag Week.

I’ve run both, they are pretty equal. The NT05R likes hot roads, the 555R2 will still stick as they get colder, had them turn a 11.4 138 1/4 on a 35 F day that the NT05R would have never done. I have extensive street 1/4 data on both same day same road trials, from early v spring to late fall weather.
Summit had both in stock in 315/20’s 2 weeks ago, I decided to give MT Street ET SS’s one more try this time in a 305 verse the 275’s I tried before which didn’t last a week but I gots ta know and that only comes with personal data gathering of my own for me.

DRs in near freezing temps is a recipe for disaster, IMO. Snow tires and AWD in those temps are also sketchy.

I'd suggest the comparison should be in a temperature range/conditions that are advisable for the design of the tire.

My post says I did extensive street 1/4 testing from “early spring to late fall” that was in the temp ranges of the tires cold, semi cold, hot, transition back to cold. I have a few sets of rims, Here they all are stacked up from last years testing, tested right down to the skins lol. Even tested against MT 317/50-17 Street R’s which on the street the Nitto’s did as good or better. Once I get a set of 11” rims I’m waiting on I’ll be testing the 315 Nitto’s again on a wider rim this time, Haven’t decided if it’s going to be the NT05R or the 555R2 yet, I like both, which will depend on availability. I’m not a post opinion just out of my ass kind of guy, Everything and anything I post comes from data of some sort whether it be a Dyno, a timer, or the track.

Do you think the Nitto 555R2 size 305-45-18 will be as good or better than MT ET street SS size 305-40-18 for use on Drag Week tracks and driving between tracks ? I'm currently using a set of 305-45-18 NT05Rs on an 18" x 10" wheel and car makes about 750 rwhp.

Just picked up 2 NT555RII that I’ll be throwing on soon. Got 60 degree days coming up here so I’m excited to get some testing done on these.

Please post pics once they are mounted. I am short listing them for replacements on my car this Spring.

I've had both the the NT 555r2s and MT ET ss tires. For pure traction the Nittos don't hold a candle to the MT's. To give you a general idea, on my stock Cat I could dead hook a 20 mph roll on the street with the MTs. With the Nittos it was a 40ish mph roll hit or miss on the street. Big difference...

Thanks for quick reply. I've got a set of the MT ET Street SS tires ordered. Your answer matches my past experience with that tire vs anything from Nitto.

I’ve only ran the MT ET SS in a 275 width at 800 wheel and ruined the first day out with them. They hooked great first 3 1/4 pulls, broke loose hitting third on the fourth and I kept them cooking and smoking like the Dodge commercial and they where done after that. Had shit for thread left after that and never hooked again after that, my fault possibly. I’m only giving the 305 a try again because a 11” wide rim I want for the 315 Nitto’s this time arent In my hands yet so I figured I’d give the ET SS’s one more try, wider this time and will treat them better this time but their going to be dealing with 930 wheel this time around so they have a tall order ahead of them. I know what the Nitto’s have done against this, car will be back on the streets in April so will know soon.
