I don’t think there is anything you can do to check the dealers allocation. When I ordered my 2021 Redeye, I had dealers tell me all kinds of things regarding allocation. A couple were even honest enough to tell me I shouldn’t order through them because they doubted it would get fulfilled (and this was March last year).
I ordered one from a dealer who told me that they wouldn’t have allocation until a couple of months later. They said they’d place the order but I shouldn’t be surprised if I don’t see movement for A couple of months. Other dealers were squirrelly and this one was willing to give back my deposit if it was taking too long. (Others stated deposit is non-refundable — which I am not sure how that works if they can’t get the car). And just a couple of weeks before the dealer was expected to have allocation, my car went to ‘D’ state.
One indicator for the allocation is if you get a VIN within a few days of ordering. If you don’t it likely means they don’t have allocation or there is a part shortage. You could ask a dealer to refund a deposit if you don’t get a VIN for awhile.
That being said it’s not clear that JBs are following the same model, as many many people are ordering them and they are sitting in BX status for a long time (this, is a bad sign historically from what I read as it seems that this means that dodge doesn’t even think they can build it the longer it sits there). My order, went to “C” state immediately. But who knows with JBs (but there have been some who ordered JBs early on and got VINs right away).
BX - good order, it’s in their system and that’s it.
C - tentative, expects to be able to build, but do not have parts / allocation yet.
D - VIN, order accepted, expects will have parts
D1 - “ship” date (which is really build date). Dodge “has” parts, will build
The above is what a dealer explained to me. And it seems to line up with my experience.
So, i think the best thing to do is talk with your dealer and set a timeline on when you can get your deposit back if it doesn’t advance to one of the D states. In either case be prepared for a wait no matter where you order it from.
