Hello I’m pretty new here. I have a 2015 Charger Hellcat. I’m new to the car world so don’t know a whole lot. I have to make a trip from Fl to Northen Michigan. Recently I’ve had coolant loss I thought it was no big deal. Does this look like coolant in the oil catch can? Should I be worried? What do y’all recommend.

Send it out for an Oil Analysis to be sure. The Green Tinted Bubbles/Spots do seem to match the Dodge Antifreeze color.

Your car is 6 years old and you stated it is losing coolant. You don't want antifreeze in the crankcase. There is a chemical reaction with engine oil that creates an acidic mixture which attacks engine parts. Antifreeze in the crankcase is also notorious for spinning engine bearings. If antifreeze is getting into the block, it is hard to clean out fully.

Also, with the engine cold, remove the Coolant Recovery Tank Cap and look for any materials (oil residue) collecting on the bottom of the cap. Look for any residue inside the tank. Both will be obvious.

Note the coolant level in the tank when cold. Keep driving and checking the cold level for a month to see if coolant disappears.

Thanks for the response. I had filled it up with the pink/purple colored coolant. Would it end up somehow looking green. For as long as i’ve had the car about a year it’s had the pink/purple coolant. Any ideas?

Hard to say what color change would occur. Oil and Water do NOT mix, thus your pictures with the separate bubbles.

There is zero reason coolant should get anywhere in the crankcase... ZERO! At this point, an Oil Analysis is a great investment so you know if there is any antifreeze/water in the oil, which the analysis will tell you.

There are many other owners here who have posted pics of there Catch Cans and all I have ever seen is just oil. You have something other than just oil.

I owned a 2002 Subaru Outback as my daily driver for many years. Coolant mixing with oil was a common problem with older Subarus, usually meant the head gasket had to be replaced. I junked my Subie just last year after I determined the head gasket was shot and the car was no longer worth the cost of the repairs. But I don't think that's your situation here.

Looks like condensation to me, also. Do you drive the car mainly short distances at a time, or generally take longer trips (20-30 miles) with it? I only drive the Hellcat when I know it’s going to get fully up to temp, but the catch can on my wife’s SRT Jeep will get funky looking stuff in it, especially in cooler months, from trips to the grocery store, etc.

Its not uncommon to have a little condensation in a catch can, so I wouldn't jump to any blown head gasket or cracked block conclusions. If it were mine, I'd drive the car until fully warmed up and slide a nice clean piece of cardboard under the front end when the car is parked overnight. Any leaks will show up on the cardboard and give you a general location of any leaks.

- Or you could always do an old fashioned pressure test on the radiator and intercooler to find any leaks ....if you need to add coolant, then it must be leaking somewhere.

If there were coolant mixing in the oil, you can do an oil change and see it quite noticeably, the oil will have a milky-grey looking color.

2. How many miles since the last oil change?

3. How many miles since the can was last emptied and cleaned?

At my last oil change at 4k mi, 2800 since the last change and can cleaning, I had maybe 1 oz of pure oil. I do a lot of local driving but it is usually bunched together so the car is at op temp most of the time.

I just drove it about 200 miles. It’s the first higher mileage trip since I’ve put the catch can on. Florida is pretty hot. My JLT CAI was coming in around high 90s low 100s. I could see it being condensation as it was raining on the day I was driving it.
