Hey guys,

Had the car for about a week, and almost everything is an upgrade to the 15 Challenger Hellcat I had. Things feel more planted and suspension seems tighter and absorbs dips, and bumps better.

I do have a quick concern with the Laguna leather seats though. My challenger had ruby red alacantara and they wore very well. The Laguna leather however is already loose, wrinkled and sagging on the back rest section, where my lower back makes contact. This is only after a week of ownership. Is this normal? I am 260 pounds but Ive had other vehicles with leather and no problem.

I question if I should try the dealer or if it's just a waste of time. I feel like they will say it's normal, cause that's what they say about everything. Maybe an upholstery shop can either pull it tight, cut off excess and re-stitch or put more or denser foam perhaps?

I will put up a pic when I'm out of work. In the meantime, just seeing other people's experiences with newer Charger Red-eyes. Maybe it is normal with softer leather, that it's gonna stretch and wrinkle some, but wanted opinions.

Most Laguna I see looks same. Easily wrinkles and stretches. My Laramie did the same thing. Driver seat looks like crap and all the other seats are good because nobody sits in them. I opted for Alcantara on my recent HC cause of the way Laguna wears.

I’ve got just under 4K miles and I’m about 180 (fly weight) and my front looks brand new. My friend who was almost 7 feet tall and 300 sat in my old deville and I could hear the life of the leather exhale right out the poor 30 year old girl.

some may say it’s normal wear and tear for the weight. Like how shoes wearfaster bearing a largerload.

my94 corolla is on some Bridgestone re71r tires for a year and I corner pretty hard and basically daily it but because the car is 2400pounds the tires are hardly wearing. The light weight of the vehicle is keeping the wear off the tires.

I wouldn’t sweat it just be easy getting in and out so the stitching lasts and enjoy it. A little bit of wrinkle is not the end of the world. Kinda like rock chips, mildly unavoidable . Only way to keep it mint and wrinkle free is not use it and who wants to do that.

Seems pretty split. I guess I'll ride it out for a little bit and see if it gets worse. If so, I'll see about warranty work or going to an upholstery place. Besides the seams not lining up, I think it's just not enough padding, or too soft maybe? The leather back there feels loose.

My wife has a Ridgeline for 3 years, that I use more often. The leather seats in that look brand new still, so it's just weird to me.

The laguna leather is much softer and higher quality than the leather my old Challenger R/T had, but with that comes a product that generally doesn't wear quite as well. With that said though, if you're careful with it the laguna will look good for a long time. My 6 year old laguna interior on my 2015 looked like new when I sold it earlier this year. My 5 year old R/T leather (with similar mileage) also looked great when I sold it, but the leather did show a little shine where I got in and out that the laguna didn't. That's probably because I was more careful getting in and out of the laguna car. My current 2021 with laguna doesn't have any of the rinkling or seat foam depression your picture is showing.

I understand to a degree, and do the best I can. The car is a daily driver though and I typically don't treat cars as if the were fragile Fine China, but that doesn't mean I'm rough with them either. I've just never had this issue before, and was a little off put that this was in the first week of ownership.

I'll give it like 3-6 months and see if it's the same or worse. If worse, I'll see what the dealer says, and if anything can be done. Otherwise maybe a different option (local upholstery) or route (katzkin) with the seats.

If anyone else had my issue or similar, and got it fixed, please share what was done.

Thanks

It’s a 80k plus car. Are you kidding me?? Bring it back and demand a new seat cushion. There is no excuse for that other then poor quality.

I get what you're saying. I'll try to find some time soon to stop by and speak with the dealer. With the seams being completely off from the top cushion to the bottom cushion, and the wrinkling/sagging issue in a week's time, I would think they'd have to approve a warranty claim. Guess we will see.

Hoping they can actually fix the issue. I read some older threads on this and the dealer just made it worse.

Let us know how it goes. One of my fears of getting a new Hellcat is something like that going wrong with it. My current one is a daily driver too and I treat it like one. I’m 225 plus and the seat still looks new with over 106K now. Just no issues at all with this car so I hate to part with it when I see stuff like this but hopefully this is just a fluke and the dealer will make it right. I know I can’t ask much more of mine so I hope to order a 2022 as soon as order banks open. Good luck with that seat.

Yea, I'll update this whenever I get over there. I know reading other threads, it seems like 50/50 to even get them to agree to a warranty claim. Then it's 50/50 if their fix works. Stressful for a brand new car.

That’s not normal regardless of how soft and high quality the leather is. Especially after only a week of owning it. I really can’t see how a dealer would defend this wear and not warranty it.

So the same car with the orange peel paint? Man, tough break and hopefully they will cover this.

Yep, same one. The paint I'm starting to get over as it appears to be fairly common. In the sun you can't tell anyway and the color looks beautiful. You know when you get a new car, you just have to go over everything with a fine tooth comb. I start to feel like I'm nitpicking sometimes I guess. I'm sure minor paint correction and ceramic coating, you won't even notice (hopefully).

The seats however are another story. That lumbar section on both front seats, the leather is like loose and not attached to the foam. If I put my hand on it, I can like move the leather around. The rest of the seat on both appears tight and the leather attached. I don't know if that's how they come, or it was missed and just needs to be glued/stitched down? I can already tell you that's the problem. Since it's loose there, every time I move, it's just creasing and wrinkling. Kind of like a dress shirt, when you get out of a car. I will see what the dealer says. May need more foam and to be tacked down. If I don't get anywhere then I guess and upholstery shop is the answer.

I don't want to come out of pocket, but my time is always very limited and if the dealer tries to play games, or do everything but fix the problem and waste my time, I'll be pissed.

I love the car otherwise, it drives better than my last hellcat in every way. Just trying to address nagging issues early, otherwise they will always bother me.
