I just purchased a Charger Hellcat from a Louisiana dealer and had it shipped to New Jersey last week. I've heard all of the horror stories about these cars getting stolen so I wanted to get the RF hub lockout done as soon as possible. I made an appointment with my local dealer and dropped the car off. I spoke to someone in service before I made the appointment so they knew exactly what I was coming on for. 5 minutes after I leave the service area I get a call from the service person saying that they could not do the lockout and my selling dealer needed to do it.

I asked to speak to the manager and he stated that there is a chance that the lockout could fail leaving the car locked out until they could get a new RF hub which would take months. He did not want to take the responsibility of having to house the car for months and provide me a loaner so he refused the service. Said I needed to take it to another dealer willing to do it.

Has anyone else had this issue with the dealer refusing to do the lockout? I am going to try other local dealers on Monday but is there any recourse for me if they all refuse? I think it's ridiculous that I spent 80k on a car and can't get a dealer provided service. I have a kill switch and a neutral pull cover plate I am going to install in the meantime but I will still not be comfortable parking this car outside without the lockout.

TLDR: Dealer refused to do RF hub lockout. Anyone with same experience and any way around it?

Have not heard of this.

I was with the tech when he did mine. He had to hook up a Battery Charger to make sure the Battery Voltage was a minimum of 12.6v during the update. Other than that, all was good.

End the hand-wringing and take i5 to another dealer.

I had no issues getting it done it took maybe 10 minutes and I was right there with the tech. Find another dealership asap you don’t want them touching your car.

I took mine to a different dealer to have it done. (It was just closer for me and my tech was my best friend). It literally took a few minutes. Zero issues.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I figured the dealer was full of it but I just wanted to confirm. I am going to try other dealers today. This whole experience really pissed me off so I’ll probably reached out to FCA about this dealer as well.

I'm still on the fence about this update; hopefully I don't get bit in the ass for not doing it!

I heard the drawback(besides the obvious one that you can't get a new key ever) is that the car can't get over the air updates anymore? Any truth to that?

I just took mine in Friday to have it done. The service guy told me that it would be an hour labor at $199. I told him it was a 2020 and it is still under warranty so I didn't have to pay for it. It only took about 20 minutes. Makes me feel a little more secure.

Nope. The update only affects the ability to make new keys.

Any other modules (radio, etc.) that normally get updates will still get them.

It is a relatively simple process but I understand the dealers hesitancy. We can perform this service in-house and it takes less than 10 minutes. We do stock replacement RFhubs in the event of a "lockout". The downside is that if a lockout occurs you would be responsible for the RFhub purchase and installation - which is most likely why the dealer declined to take the job on.

Has any one had the dealer to say after scheduling the update it does not need to be done? Mine came in last August 2021. Got notice from FCA it could be done free of charge. Dealer ordered what I needed then called me and told new Bulletin she got said I did not have to do it on my model. I have the 2021 Hellcat WB Charger.

I received my 21 HC Charger at the beginning of November 2021. Had the RF hub lockdown installed this past spring
