My 3 car garage is in need of a new floor. I put on an epoxy coating when my house was built 14 years ago. I've continually struggled with the tires pulling the coating off and I've repaired those areas several times. So,I think its time for a change.

I've been looking at putting tiles down. I looked at polypropylene tiles but they seem "noisy" and I'd like to get something a little more comfortable to stand on.

I've been impressed with the "claims" by some of the PVC flex tile manufacturers. They claim that they are softer, yet hold up well in an active garage. I need something that will hold up to the activities in a residential garage, i.e. floor jacks and jack stands, tool cabinets, spilled gasoline, oil, etc. but will still be easy to maintain and keep clean.

I've been looking at the Flex Nitro brand, but I know there are others out there. Is anyone out there using any of their products?

Always wanted to do the epoxy coating but never did. Years later it probably is too late or at least not worth the effort because of all the stains, finished base trim etc. So I was thinking of other options like you. Hopefully you get some ideas.

I love my PVC tile. Had it in my last house for 10 years and now my new house for 4 years. Gets dirty and is harder to clean than epoxy. Plus no jacks or jackstands as they will damage the tiles. It's not the greatest for working on but good for cosmetics. I've spilt oil, gas, coolant, brake fluid, etc. None have damaged it.

If you need a working surface go epoxy again. But more for looks then the tiles IMHO.

Couple pics here. As you can see I work on mine. The jacks did dent them but it doesn't bother me enough to worry about it. Plus they are easy to change and I have several extras.

In my years of occasional searching I have done nothing...I still have my bare concrete..plastic snap in place tiles look cool but as you found they don't stand up to heavy weights concentrated in a small footprint like lifts ect. They are not water nor fluid proof meaning stuff accumulated under and between them over time...esp If you live in a winter zone where salt/brine/stone encrusted slush baths the floor. If I do anything in the future it will be a high tensile strength ceramic tile...Epoxy coating done by pros can last a long time with the proper preparation of your concrete..

I went with polyurea. I tested a few floor tiles and wasn't impressed with any of them. Polyurea coatings are a bit more expensive than standard epoxy, but they make for about a 1/4" deep of a near stone-like textured surface. Came out fantastic in my case. This garage is 34'x26' if I recall correctly and I paid about $5,200 installed:

My mind always goes to the classic-looking slick white tiles. Why not 2x2' tiles with black grout between them? Just don't drive fast into the garage from the rain.

Clear REAL epoxy-coated concrete? (installed by people who specialize in this, not the cheap crap you get in a kit.) You can even "tattoo" the concrete underneath with the design of your choice stained into the concrete. You may be able to cut costs by doing all the prep work yourself.

Cool! I got this a few years ago on Amazon for just over $2 a square foot. It comes in a ton of colors, styles, etc.

I was looking ar Racedeck, but this looks like a great alternative. Are you still happy with the quality/durability of the floor?

Vinyl floor tiles.
About $1 each.
Good for moderate wear. Fluids don’t touch em.
They do dent under pointed Jack stands or if you drop something heavy and pointy but you just peel it up and replace with another one for a $1.

I painted my floor and later decided to put down some race deck in one parking space. The floor would slide on the concrete. I ending up doubling the area covered and it works fine.
The beveled edging works very well if you don't want to go wall to wall.
