I have a 2016 hellcat that is all stock

low mileage 7k miles

I went to a local shop to talk about performance upgrades

they were recommended from someone that i trust.
The shop said they commonly do a clutched 2.85 upper pulley
injector dynamics fuel injectors
unlocking the pcm
diablo sport tuner
and a dyno tune
looking at about a solid 100hp upgrade at the wheels for $5k

does that sound right ?

it seemed a little high to me

ive been building cars (older carb setups) and custom motorcycles for close to 20 years now and im confident i can do the install on the fuel injectors and change blower pulley just fine
the tuning i would be lost though

i know guys use people that do tuning online

the tuning is really all new to me
im looking for some advise and recommendations
i dont mind spending money but i feel like for $5k i could get a little more performance out of it ?

i do not want to run e85 or race gas
i want a pump gas only setup

thanks for any help and advise

From what ive read here infinity times is that’s it’s imperative to use a reputable tuner who will tune your car and not used a canned or online deal. That’s where the secret sauce is if you want to avoid blowing up your car. Pay the money.

That's a tad high but not terribly, these MOPAR's tuners definitely charge more for tuning Hellcat's than Mustang tuners

I was quoted $4500 w/tax for a Littens 2.85, ID-1050x, HP Tuners w/tranny tune, installed and tuned.

As far as performance, Presuming your an A8 car, that setup will get you into the low ten's, likely in the 9's with good track prep.

yes i have an a8

i also saw that HHP in delaware offers something similar with demon injectors for about $2k cheaper

DE is not too bad of a drive for me

anyone have any experience with them ?

and are the injector dynamics injectors necessary ?

or can i do the demon injectors ?

im not looking to pinch pennies
but i do want to get new wheels and tires for the car also so if i can save some some money on the power addition and put that towards wheels and tires that would be excellent
and i just bought a DIS brace for it also

I would not be afraid of online tunes from a reputable tuner. Check out ost dyno using hptuners. Mike and Micah are premium top notch guys.
If you can do mechanical work, change the upper and lower, toss in injectors, send your pcm to hptuners for unlock, and boom you are going to be happy. A few test drives with data logging, changing tunes, and you are done.
DEFINITELY PIN THE CRANK.
If you are competeing where pulling out that last 30hp means the world, then yes, spend the cash on dyno time. But everytime you change something, plan on paying that dyno fee again, and again, and again.

The advice you are going to get is going to be all over the board, so take it all in before you make any decisions. The parts in the package you have been quoted will get you some really nice gains but there are couple more things to consider:

  • you will definitely need a rear differential brace and sticky tires (MT or Nitto drag radials)
  • if you get sticky tires and plan to run it at the track, a better driveshaft is highly recommended (Wiles or CCI)
  • many people will suggest pinning the crank, although that may not be necessary with the Littens pulley. It is cheap insurance and something I would recommend
  • some have had issues with the clutched pulley, most have not. The regular 2.85 Metco-style pulley works well also
  • the 2.85 with injectors on pump 91 or 93 octane, with good tires, should get you a mid-10 second time slip, maybe low 10's if the air and track prep are ideal
  • online tuning is possible and reasonable with these cars as they have a factory wideband O2 sensor. Companies like Dusterhoff, Barth, OST, etc., are all very good at this and I do not think there is a lot of risk with using them. Using someone local that isn't familiar with these cars feels far riskier to me
  • if you are mechanically inclined you can do the work. There are plenty of tutorials on Youtube and this forum to help with the steps and the torque sequences/values. The remote tuning is not difficult but takes some time to figure out (especially with Diablo)

Good luck, you are going to love how easy it is to pick up 100+ hp on these cars.

Thank you

I already bought the diff brace

at the moment i am leaning towards the litens 2.85 pulley and the demon injectors
and than possibly doing a remote tune with OST

The local shop to me strictly Mopar and SRT work and are well known for tuning
but I cant wrap my head around the $5k price tag right now.

Im almost never really taking the car to a track
I raced a 3,000hp outlaw drag radial car 15 years ago, and I have no interest getting back in to that scene. Plus there are no tracks that are close to me at all.

I just want to add some more power and keep the car on a safe tune and not lose reliability.

I really appreciate everyones responses

Just my two cents my first tune/upgrade was actually a little more than the 5k out the door but very reliable and netted me basically 775whp. 2.85 Metco upper pully, unlocked pcm with HP Tuner software, engine & transmission tune, pinned crank, Per4mance differential brace, 180° t-stat, & ID 1200cc injectors because we knew I eventually wanted to run a flex 93 Octane/ E85 set up. Didn't get a chance to run this set up at the track so can't weigh in on what times she was capable of.

I have heard great things about HHP so if your close I'd definitely give them a call ask for Josh he should be able to give you all the options.

The only experience I have with HHP is purchasing parts, which they have a top notch customer service when it comes to questions and explanations. My 2 cents would be to give HHP a call and go over what your goals are. There are a lot of hellcat owners who I'm sure would gladly vouch for HHP as they are a highly respected vendor on here. If you're willing to do the drive, I would take your cat to them and you won't have any regrets or worries, as they have built some bad ass cats. Parts and install costs are one thing, but having a reputable shop AND tuner build your car is priceless. Plenty of horror stories to go around with "local" shops incorrectly installing parts and not properly tuning Hellcats.
Good luck with your build
