So, I was going to do a 0-60 ET the other day and I pulled the paddle shifter down 1 after I had stopped and that brought it into manual mode. Then I launched and smoked the tire like crazy (fun though) but as I started to peddle the throttle to get it under control, it shifted into 2nd by itself? I then proceeded to put the hammer back down, and it lit the tires up again. Before I knew it, it had shifted into 3rd? I thought when you use the paddle shifters and your dash says M next to the gear, it was in manual mode. So this is really a hybrid manual mode? If I want full control, do I have to pull the shifter over to manual? I was in sport mode too. How to most people on here run their 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, etc... times?

It will eventually shift on its own if you just the paddle shifters. If you want full manual, you'll need to slide the stick over to manual.

I drive my car in manual mode at all times unless really racing. I let the auto shift on its own while going through the gears. Personally I hit the rev limiter too often. The engine is still building power when it hits the rev limiter. It feels counter intuitive to shift before your power curve peaks, so I consistently hit the limiter. In auto mode, it picks off the gears perfect every time.

Doesn't have to be track setting. As long as the shifter is in manual mode. I don't like how firm track is, so I leave it on street/default, traction control off, just push the paddle to manual and you can be at 1,500rpm and floor it, and it will not downshift. Will hold a gear like a manual. It will bang off the rev limiter too.

It's probably my memory going out, but I remember being in Custom mode with Sport and Default as the transmission setting, AutoStick to the left, and the transmission upshifting automatically. The only time it bounced the rev limiter was when the transmission setting was in Track (this might have been an earlier transmission software version before the new update came out).

Come to think of it, I probably had the shifter in Drive mode, but clicked the paddle shifter to manual.

I'll have to go do some spirited runs to test it out again.

When I get the car back together I'll go horse around. Pretty sure I remember hitting the rev limiter a few times.

True manual mode is only found by moving the stick to the left.

Paddle shifters by themselves are only temporary manual overrides. Think of it as manual inputs to an automatic.

Doesn't matter what setting. If stick is in D, it will shift at redline. Move to M, it will downshift when you come to a stop, but will not upshift period.

This is what I was trying to say. In my car it doesn't matter the mode

Thanks for posting, as usual rayzazzoo, you have valuable insights/info. Please follow up with your test results. I run a similar custom mode.

Thanks for posting your questions, this is a useful thread. I had read through the manual but was not clear on the finer points of the manual modes.

This is not true. If you are in manual mode and you just hold a gear, it will shift automatically to the next gear when you are slightly above redline. At least this is what it does in my car.

What I really want to know is if your in D and start using the paddles, how do you get it to stay using the paddles with out switching back to just normal D. Hate how it switches back automatically.
Now I know you guys will say just put it in manual mode, however I like it in D because I like to start that way then be able to use the paddles after it shifts a little automatically.

Are you running a tuner? If so, then yes, you are correct, it will shift at 6500 rpm from what I have read. Stock, you shouldn't get to that rpm, as you will be hitting the rev limiter.

As for your other issue. You can't. D is auto. Paddles override, but it is temporary. Only thing you can do is hit the paddles again or after the first shift, move the stick.

Nope no tuner here, just stock! Just tried it again and like I said if I'm in manual mode and hold the gear and do not shift, it will shift for me in every gear when it's a little into the red zone.
I think it's pretty bad ass though actually and I would think it would be a great way to get good time slips.

As for my question with the paddles in D mode, yea thats what I figured. Sucks though I wish it were once you activate the paddles even in D it stayed in until you wanted to put it back to auto. You would think since your able to put it back to D by holding the right paddle for a couple seconds that it wouldn't default back till you did...
If it didn't default back to D though this 100 percent would be my favorite way to drive it.
Reason being, you get precise shifts by the computer in D for the first 3-5 gears then take over by paddles to hold gears longer so the stupid computer is putting you in 7th and 8th gear while going 50,60 miles an hour.. Man that shit pisses me off...

My solution is just start off in D then when ready to control the shifts, I just slide the gear stick over to manual and problem solved and I can enjoy the car the way I love to drive it. Just sucks I got to do that extra motion to do so. Then it stinks even more when you have a lot of stopping to do, as you have to keep sliding the stick back and fourth...
Oh well guess nothing is perfect.....

If you have an idea, my experience is, dodge engineers are usually pretty open minded about new ideas. Might want to shoot them an email with how you would like to have the car know when you want manual or auto.

OK, let's be sure we are talking apples to apples. When you say you are in "Manual mode" do you mean, the car is in D, and you have entered the paddle shifting "manual mode" by hitting a paddle? If so, then yes, it will shift at 6000 rpm (actually a little before redline).

However, if you put the car in "MANUAL mode" (slide the stick over to M), in stock form it will not upshift, and you will hit the rev limiter if you don't hit the plus paddle or pull the stick to shift. The guys with a tune that has raised the redline have stated that the car will shift at 6500 rpm in this mode, that was what I was referring to in the previous post.

For your desired behavior, you should try driving in Sport or Track trans mode (set a custom mode), it will do exactly what you are after. Then, when you get in the car, double-tap the SRT button to select your custom mode and head out. You will be able to leave it in D and the car will not upshift so quickly into higher gears at lower speeds.

I'm 100 percent in manual mode. Meaning stick is in M, not D. And I repeat mine up shifts automatically when I get a little past 6000 rpm. So to explain further when I slide the shifter over to M and start off in 1rst gear with the paddles, I push the gas do not shift and the car will automatically go to second once I'm a little past redline. I'm not lying brother, I do it all the time.

As for the the custom mode I'm very familiar with all settings and have played around much with custom selection. However whether in track or sport transmission it still eventually goes to seventh gear and I hate that. I mostly drive around speeds of 45- 70 and I want to be in 3rd to 5th gear at those speeds... Not 7th and 8th.
In my opinion those two gears don't even belong in this car.
