I got a quote from a dodge dealership for $4100 for a three-year 36,000 mile Mopar maximum care warranty with a $200 deductible. In everybody’s experience here, would this be worth spending that much? I know warranties are a gamble but that is a very expensive one.. I plan on leaving this car completely stock.

Yes, extended warranties are worth it for piece of mind. A motor is $20+K and an A8 is $8+K just for starters. A SC is $4+K. Then, there is all the electronics.

My dealer sold me an 8 yr / 100K Miles for $4,900. You might do some shopping or ask more questions at your dealership.

I bought the added care plus. I couldn't find any reason to get the max care--nothing it covered on top of the added care would justify the deductible let alone the extra price.
But there are definitely good reasons to get at least something--since some components are very expensive to repair/replace and with our high HP cars the odds of them needing it are increased.

The worst place to buy it is at your local dealer who is selling you a car. They will jack that price into infinity. Go with one of the dealers that offers them at better rates, like what was just recomended in the post above this one.

Wow,I don't know where these people are coming up with there pricing, unless they've doubled there prices in the last year. Last year I bought a 7yr/60,000mi $200 deductible Max Care for $2005 for my Demon from Chrysler Warranty Direct. Call Nichole @ (517)745-7233

That's a really high quote, should be about half that at least.

I got the lifetime btb with $100 deductible for $3100 in 2015 for my SPS from Steve White Motors in NC. At the time my dealers best price was $4600.

As for whether its worth it or not really depends on how much you drive it and how long you plan to keep it. I have 127,000 miles on mine and never plan on selling it. In that time I've only had 2 incidents, 1st was rear the rear diff at 60k cost to R&R was about 3k, cost to me $100. Second was a freak incident where a stone jumped over the rock guard on the rear O2 sensor drove the cap into the sensor which shorted out the O2 sensor as well as the Channel on the ECM, they had to replace ECM, sensor, and wiring, total cost $2400, cost to me $100.

In my case it definitely has been worth the cost.

Same deal here. I bought the lifetime plan on our 2014 Charger AWD when it was at 35,990 miles. Cost around $3000 back then in 2016. And wouldn't you know it? The car had only one repair needed in 105,000 miles! Two leaking front axle boots. LOL. Too bad they don't offer the lifetime option any more. I would absolutely get it for out 2022 Redeye.

Interesting timing. I am looking for a 2023 Durango Hellcat. With its high-stressed motor and all the electronics, an extended warranty is a reasonable luxury to me. I have one on my GT350 and although I use it more vigorously than I expect to use the Durango, it gives me a peace of mind while I'm thrashing it.

However, the typical Dodge dealer is not the place to buy this. I have an excellent relationship with my Ford dealer. I asked them about an extended warranty. They said they'd give it to me at their cost, but that - to be honest - they couldn't compete with the few large dealers who specialize in extended warranties. They recommended I check out Flood Ford or Zeigler, among others. I ended up with a policy through Flood Ford, but Ziegler was just slightly more expensive. Both of them were more than $3000 less than my dealers "at their cost" quote. I don't know how Flood, Zeigler and others are able to quote so much lower prices. If anyone knows, I'd love to be educated.

I was curious to estimate how much an extended warranty for the Durango might cost. Since the 2023 Durango Hellcat isn't in any of their systems yet, I checked out the extended warranty pricing on a 2021 Durango Hellcat with a hypothetical 18,000 miles. I got quotes for plans covering 8-years, 85K-miles and with two deductible values. I compared the Chrysler standard direct plan and compared that with the Ziegler Mopar Vehicle Protection Plan.

- ChryslerWarantyDirect: $0 deductible: $9,950 $200 deductible: $5,510
- Ziegler Mopar Plan: $0 deductible: $5,165 $200: deductible: $3,035

The last one is probably the one I would have picked in this scenario. The cost/1K-miles is $3.57
If I stepped up to the 100K-mile/8-year/$200-ded plan, the cost becomes $4,235. The cost/1K-miles is $4.24, a significant increase.

Remember that the factory warranty is 3-year bumper-to-bumper and 5-year powertrain, so a so-called "8-year" warranty is actually a 5-year "quasi" bumper-to-bumper and a 3-year powertrain warranty. I say "quasi", because there are a few differences with the factory warranty.

One more thing, on the Ford plans, the extended warranty must be purchased prior to the 3-year factory warranty period. I waited until the 34th month before buying an extended warranty for the GT350. I've heard, but haven't confirmed, that you can buy a warranty after the 36th month, but that you must pay for a vehicle inspection before the coverage will be granted. I don't know if Mopar does something similar. Anyway, I'd wait till the end of the main factory warranty before buying an extended one. I'd just hope the plans didn't change or get more expensive in the interim.

Something else you guys should be aware of a lot of dealers are starting to charge a "diagnostic" fee on cars still under warranty when you bring them in for an issue, anywhere from $150 to $190.

My service guy tried that on me last week, and I cancelled the service visit and told him I'll be back when the owner is here and we'll go from there. I have bought my SPS, my 19 HC, and my 21 Red-eye from them and if they make me pay for that bs will be the last car I ever buy from them.

First of all, you already have a 3/36 bumper to bumper included with the car. Why would you need more?

Second: There is only one reason anyone sells these extended warranties: They profit from them!

The cost of the service contracts depends on how many miles the vehicle already has. When I bought mine it was at 46k miles and they said that at 48k it would bump up to the next price tier and cost more. The short answer is the earlier you buy it the less it costs.

Also, they only require inspections for the parts the contract covers that are not currently covered by an existing factory warranty--so if your 3year/36k bumper-to-bumper is over but your 5year/60k power train is not, they only need to inspect whatever the difference is. The dealer I went to did the inspection for free--I just told them it was for a mopar service plan and they said "oh, a multi-point, we do those all day long, it's free..." handed them the form I needed filled out and they took care of it. Took 45 min.

If you are keeping the car long term, I think they have value. Save $$ on Genuine Mopar Vehicle Protection Warranty Plan! (chryslerfactoryplans.com) you can create your own plan that fits what you are comfortable with paying and deductibles. I have the $100 plan on my truck for 8 years. I plan on keeping her a while. I am actually looking at them for my Redeye as well. Just a supercharger replacement would cover the cost of an extended warranty and then some.

Why would you need more?

I sold my '97 Corvette after 21 years, 187K miles and lots of Autocrosses. I sold my '98 Suburban after 19 years and 234K miles. I tend to keep my vehicles a long time. In my experience, significant components start to fail at 80K miles. I agree that overall, Extended Warranties are money makers for the sellers. However, high-performance vehicles that are actually used for high-performance may be the exception. When you stress stuff, it tends to break.

It is questionable if an extended warranty would have helped on my Corvette, since the Autocross usage may have voided my warranty. The '16-'19 GT350 is unique in that the warranty is in full effect even during track use (ask me how I know).
