I bought a 2017 Charger HC and it had the mid muffler delete. It took a little bit to get used to but I liked it in time. The best thing about it was how it popped when I let off the throttle. I didn't have to do much to make it do it either. Well, my son wanted me to make the 2020 Charger HCWB sound the same. I had put Vibrant 1794's on it and they sounded really nice. I had them replaced with straight pipe yesterday. Well, kind of a bummer. It doesn't really pop at all.

Did something change from 2017 to the 2020 that would cause this? Is there a way to make it pop again? If I can't do it I will probably put the Vibrant's back on because I think they sounded a little deeper. Any help is appreciated.

If you want more pops, the mid muffler delete pipe needs to be a little wider than the pipe coming off of the catalytic converter. This will allow for more efficient volume expansion/contraction.

You could always mess with the tune, but for me, that's going to be a no-go. I don't know what the stock differences are in the tune on these cars per model year. But I do know you can tune the car to pop more, but there would be some performance and reliability drawbacks over the long haul. Generally, this is done by running a richer fuel mixture, which will wet foul your plugs and cause the cats to wear more quickly over time.

Do you have the exhaust valves open with the MFER or other kit? That might effect it. My 2021 Challenger HC with 1794's and valves full open all the time does some popping and cracking. Nothing crazy but you can definitely hear some in sport mode. I think it's perfect now. When letting off at the right RPM it just gurgles a lot and gives a few little firecracker sounding pops spattered in between. It even did it a little bit with the stock mufflers and valves open but wasn't as loud as with the 1794's.

I'm guessing you've tried getting the car to do it in sport mode? Manual mode?

Odd that some cars seem to do it and some don't. I've been seeing it this way since 2016 so I don't think it's anything new. Even the Scat Pack crowd says some do it and some don't. I had a Charger Scat Pack and that car would gurgle and crack a lot w/ stock exhaust as long as the valves were opened up.

The cheapest way to do it is to add a section of pipe somewhere south of the cats that is a little wider than stock. By a section, I mean a foot or two, max. Have an exhaust shop or someone good with a welder to fit in the wider section, then fit it back into the stock size pipe. The popping can be created via unspent fuel popping off in the hot exhaust (expensive tune way), or, you can change the air pressure in the exhaust by creating a void where gas can expand then be forced to constrict again. This too will add a more civilized rumble and a few pops. Granted, it would pop more if you coupled this with a rear resonator delete.

If you look at StainlessWorks retro style exhaust, this is in essence what they're doing in the axleback or midpipe section. The pipes use a series of baffles, no resonators or mufflers. These baffles are crimped into the pipe to create constant areas of high and low pressure to gently quieten the exhaust (compared to being a straight pipe) while adding rumble and the aforementioned pops. Pictured below is a kit similar to what I used on my GT. Sounded very angry.

Mine is virtually the same, albeit a tad quieter, when I put the Vibrants on after having a mid muffler delete also. Did yours have the new cats put on yet from the recall?

I have a 2018 HC charger with the 1794s, and it pops plenty.
