Happy Labor Day weekend:

Against the backdrop of various and sundry comments about these cars both for and against, this is about the four door rocket I currently have sitting in my garage, all cleaned and washed after our road trip to Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas.

2022 CHARGER SRT HELLCAT WIDEBODY in HELLRAISIN (aka PLUMCAT)

I own a four door sedan...not a two door. For anyone who owns this car, you know and understand what this is and what it is not. I'm talking about real life driving on real life roads....no rarified stuff ....no track tires or special fuel....no mods.

...JUST the car....doin what it was designed to do right off the assembly line....nothing added and nothing taken away.

This is about driving the car.....in real life.....a 717 hp beast that, in certain situations can rock your world and everyone else in the slipstream.

We drove from Manvel, Texas, to Big Bend National Park, and made a side trip to Marfa one day and then drove home. All in all. we logged just over 1,300 miles in four days.

Now.....about the trip itself.. and the car....actually....definitely the CAR....we avoided I10....preferring to take Route 90 which to me is akin to driving the Texas version of Route 66.....amazing scenery....miles and miles of open road with literally NO one in sight....and lots of curves and straight lines.

It was really that deserted out there on '90 in far Southwest Texas....and it was also where, Plumcat was able to stretch out...it was where...she finally had her opportunity to do what she does best.

I've read alot of what I will categorize as "crap" about this car being "slow".......c'mon..to those nay sayers...get your collective heads out of your posteriors. Alot...and I mean ALOT of owners....will not ever track their cars.....real life fast ...is fast....end of. There will always be faster...but real life fast is fast....nuff said.

For many of us, there is more to ownership than trap times or quarter mile numbers.....such as walking outside and having a small crowd standing around your car....respectfully asking questions...complimenting you on the color...the wheels....asking for a peek inside the interior....starting her up and letting selected admirers sit behind the wheel...what's that worth?....seeing the look of awe on their faces....the appreciation......can it be measured in dollars?....nah... or......taking corners that many "pundits" said not too long ago....weren't possible given the capabilities of the platform.

Tell ya what....do NOT underestimate the capabilities of the Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody....DO NOT

....Oh and Bilstein, thank you and Dodge for a great job with this system...it rocks....it can and does corner.

Tell ya what Tim and Co...if you read posts here at this forum.....yes the platform is a tad dated, but I'm here to tell you that it has aged well....and I didn't see anyone standing around looking at the two Mustangs or the C8 Corvette parked there when we stopped for lunch in San Antonio .....NOPE....they wanted to talk about the Hellcat.

Plumcat ...well she drew a crowd....those cars DID NOT.

On a straight stretch of lonely road on Tuesday afternoon......with NOBODY else around for miles.....and I mean straight line stuff for 7 miles or thereabouts.....I let Plumcat loose a bit...I gave her some rein...let her have her natural way...170 MPH came quickly....and I didn't push her at all....it was effortless...pulling and pulling and still pulling until I finally let off the throttle...after all...I don't need to test 196 mph....I know she can do it.

....and the big moment?.....a Cadillac CT5 Blackwing came up beside me just outside of Del Rio, Texas...it's a VERY fast car....but not able to keep up with the Plumcat....Oh yes...I responded to his challenge..,...after all..that's what he wanted......and hey.....there is some pride involved. Plumcat was ready...and I was not going to deny her that moment against the OTHER fast North American sedan.

He gave me two thumbs up after we finished....acknowledging the Plumcat as the victor. It wasn't even close after 80 mph.

So...miles later outside of San Antonio...Fast forward on our way home....finally on I10 east of San Antonio.....no one stepped aside for the Mustang...or the Lexus....or the Audi....and no one stepped aside for the Camaro ZL1 in the fast lane...nah...they stayed in their lane and made those cars WAIT....but not her....Plumcat never waited....they all gave her space....as is her due...after all...she's a four door BEAST....they all moved over and let her pass....yah...true stuff.. when the other cars saw me in their rear view mirror in the passing lane...everyone moved over....WHY you may ask?....because I was driving an icon.....the fastest frickin four door sedan under 85k (2022 prices) in the WORLD....and everyone who knows anything about cars....KNOWS THAT.

...Plumcat...assembled in North America....and driven on the great American road.

...How fast do you wanna go?.....in stock form.....well tell ya what...she's damm well fast enough....and she's REALLY pretty...jut sayin.

This is the four door sedan - Plumcat. This is...American Muscle. This is...and will remain...an ICON.

DODGE

Only One Year left....just one.

I feel fortunate that I was able to get her this year at a price that was VERY reasonable.

Thank you for this, very well written.
As a Challenger Hellcat manual owner, I can attest that this car is real world, everyday very fast.
But the Cat also has presence other cars (and in some instances “more capable” cars) wish they had.
Long live the Hellcat.

I get it; I can relate. Reading that was like reliving the wide drives in my 2016 Charger Hellcat all over again, though she was Granite. Especially the pulling at that speed, wanting to breathe more...

Thank you!

That's no lie man. People love them some hellcats around here in SA. Over there in Texico is a perfect place to break the sound barrier. Keep the passion alive Sir!

Enjoyed the write up!! And i must say you are 100% right on these cars being iconic!! I recently went to the Mopar Nationals in Ohio and while i raced my Go Mango Charger the day at racing didnt end well as my MT tires took a shit and told me they were done getting traction so on the way back to the campground the town had places to do burnouts right on the street!! With hundreds of people standing around and it didnt matter if you had a van or a dump truck you had to try to do a burnout they even poured water on the road!! 😀 As i pulled up to some of the spots i would hear OOHHH MAN THATS A HELLCAT!! from people standing and sitting along the street!! So since my tires were shot i felt obligated to give them what they wanted!! So yes these cars are ICONIC for sure!!!
