I've asked for the old parts on my car. (OLD??? yeah they are a whole month old..)
Bumper, insert, spoiler, etc... In the past this has never been an issue.

Now however they are telling me that Dodge has a 100.00 core charge on the bumper. Basically I have to pay to keep the damaged one.... Somehow this just seems strange to me.
Anyone ever heard of this?

I just called Allen Samuels dodge body shop in Katy, TX manager named Benny who took over 2 months ago and he says OH YEAH that's normal to do core charges on all damaged parts and if you want them you have to pay it or they'll bill you for it if you don't give it back. He says Ford and Chevrolet do the same thing. Hope this helps buddy

I think it is because they get the damaged ones refurbished and reuse them (not as new but as refurbished parts where people are willing to take them). I'm being serious. I've seen refurbished bumper covers for sale through parts sources many times. I think they figured there was a buck to be made here.

Thanks guys. At least i know it's not just my local guy trying to rip me off. Bunker costs 400 and mine has 2 tabs torn and a little dent. Reckon it's worth the 100...
No problem, the Benny guy also said that core cost is for each part  and cost varies depending on the part. He said he has a customer with a jeep being worked on with a bumper and two head lights, core cost for that guy is $350

I just went to rockauto.com. Looked up an '09 Dodge Challenger Bumper cover.

They have CAPA certified (aftermarket that meets a certain OE fit/quality standard, aftermarket and guess what... reconditioned. The CAPA certified new part is most expensive. The reconditioned part is second most expensive and much more costly than the aftermarket new stuff.

Now you know where this stuff ends up! I bet the plastic weld some tabs on, fix the damage, prime it and resell...
