Hey guys, I'm in the process of swapping a 6.2 hellcat and 8hp90 into my 70 Challenger and I'm having some problems with parts selection.

My power goals are somewhat modest, 750-800RWHP which I know is very doable on these engines without pushing the blower or bottom end too hard .

I'm going to be doing a cam, really just for the sound (I've owned this car for years through 3-4 different solid roller SBM setups, can't imagine it without cam lope).

I was looking into the MMX HC1+ cam, but Ryan of FRP was very helpful and recommended his Tomahawk cam with springs/pushrods that came out to not much more $$$ than the HC1+ by itself using stock springs.

Here's where I run into issues. My first plan was to simply do an ATI lower with the cam for now and hopefully hit the low side of my goals, POSSIBLY do FIC 1300's and run E85 (although I don't like the idea of running it without a flex sensor since it varies so much around here).

I knew tuning would be the big issue though since there probably aren't many tuners around here with experience tuning cammed 'cats so I called up Ripatuned which is only a couple hours away and they recommended their Incognito lower with a 2.69 upper or a 2.59 upper and stock (pinned) lower. They further went on to tell me they wouldn't tune it if I used any other combo because the Tomahawk cam would bleed too much boost and I wouldn't be happy with the results. They also told me the ATI lowers fail often.

Looking at what those pulley combos make HP wise, they seem way more extreme than I'd need for my power goals and I really don't want to run the blower on the ragged edge.

Am I wrong or do those pulley combos seem like way more than I'd need, even with the cam? I know there are many guys running MMX cams with mild pulley combos so maybe that with the incognito lower is a better route for me if the ATI's have issues.

Sorry that I am not really answering your question. ATI has been in business since 1961. You get a complete Balancer that is better than the OEM unit for (let's say $600 or less). I paid $475 for mine. Ripatuned sells you a "sleeve" for $900 and how long have they been in the Racing Business? I have not seen one issue on here about an ATI Failure....JMHO.

I completely agree, ATI is the way to go.
Have had one on every gt500 and now on my hellcat, zero issues, never heard of a failure.
I am shocked they told you that.
Coming from a company that makes sleeves, I am not a fan of them and would use real parts over their gimmick. I can sell you some incognito duct tape that you wrap around the stock damper to get the 2-3 psi gain. On sale now $500 a roll lol.

I would go back and watch the Gas Money Garage and Roadkill episodes where they did this; seriously. You will see first-hand what they had to deal with putting these in an early Dodge. Why not just nitrous oxide?

Thank you, that kind of confirms my suspicions with what I was being told.

shouldn’t be much trouble at all, maybe a little worse than the last car I LS swapped (my 96 impala) but I’ve got a pretty good plan for how things will work, and there are much easier ways of doing the swap now than how some of those shows did them. Mopar performance stand alone running the whole deal with a Sound German transmission controller for the 8hp90. The rest is just a matter of fitment and I used to work as a fabricator for a speed shop so metal work is nothing new to me.

my old setup was a procharged EFI 340. Made about as much HP as a hellcat but not with the same streetability/reliability.
