Hey guys. Just recently picked up a used 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat M6 with 29k miles. I traded in my 2012 45th anniversary edition Camaro SS on the hellcat and am really enjoying it so far. So I am new to Dodge vehicles. This is my first. I am also not a very experienced manual driver. I can drive one but I am definitely not the most skilled and I have never driven a car with this much power. I have never driven a manual with anywhere close to this power. I have built some gen 1 small block chevy engine as well as basic bolt ons with my Camaro. I am also new to any kind of forced induction so I am trying to research and learn about these things. So I had a question about an incident that happened early. I had just got in the car. It idled in my driveway for a few minutes to warm up. I made it down the road about a mile and was rolling up to a stop light when the was a sudden loud bang under the car. I could feel it in the floor right below my feet. Then there was a sound that was just like metal dragging on asphalt. I honestly thought the drive shaft had broke. Well I engaged the clutch and the car moved like normal and the sound of metal was gone. I pulled into an empty parking lot and looked under the car and there was nothing there. I also lifted the hood and didn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary. I continued to drive the car around for a little bit and everything seemed pretty normal. I have no idea what it was. Could it just have been a backfire in the exhaust. I have read that it happens more often with the M6 but I was thinking more like decel pops. This was a very loud and forceful backfire if that's what it was. Sorry for the extremely long post. Just want to learn about these cars and be able to wrench on them some. Thanks for any help!

Mike

Might want to jack the car up or put it on a lift and have a good look underneath. I agree with baabootoo you might have bottomed out on the cross member going over a road hazzard. Easy to do at low speeds following other cars at close distance. Vehicle in front of you has greater ground clearance rolls over an obstacle you never even saw and boom damage is done. Hellcats are pretty low in front.

Yea I’ll definitely do that. I was almost at a complete stop. I was still rolling a little bit. I have some quick jacks coming soon so I’ll get the car jacked up and take a look underneath. Thanks for your help.

Congrads on the HC, how about some pics?

I hope it was just something you ran over. 1 year with the 2020 M6 and no probs so far.

You will need 4 of these (2 sets) for the Quick Jack:

I haven’t been able to climb under it yet to see if there is any damage or anything. Nothing noticeable just looking under the car from the side and nothing noticeable under the hood. I had one of the pinch weld adapters already from using it on my Camaro. Got the others coming as we speak! I appreciate the reply.

Not a hellcat just a 392 but I love my m6 so far. Welcome to the brotherhood of muscle.
I appreciate it! I’m loving the car so far. I have always been a GM/Chevy guy but I think I have a new love lol. The car is great. Im a big guy and it has plenty of room, a lot of trunk space, great visibility compared to the Camaro and of course awesome power. I love to drive it. Makes me smile just thinking about it lol. I just have to learn how to drive and handle it. It’s definitely a lot of car for me. Looking forward to learning how to drive and control the power.
