Oil Separator/ Catch Can questions

25057 Views 80 Replies 43 Participants Last post by  bmeaggie
I would like to buy a catch can for my Hellcat. I've looked at a couple different styles. One latches on to a corner engine bolt with a couple set screws. Another uses one bolt as a mount but it looks like it would hit the belt if the mounting nut loosened up. I would like to find an affordable one that mounts securely so I don't have to worry about it coming loose. Any suggestions/photos? Two final questions. Does it matter which side of the engine is vented or do both sides generally require venting? Also if I buy the breather that replaces the oil filler cap does this help the problem a lot or should I still run one or two separators? Thanks in advance!

Just the one catch can. passenger side.

JLT...works great, 10 min mount time with all connectors, reasonably priced.

EDIT:
nice video below on installation of just about any catch can...JLT comes with hoses assembled with sealed ends. Super easy.
I estimated 10 minutes but that probably included unboxing the unit in the basement and opening up the car...not to mention drinking a beer!

Billet Technology catch can. Easiest install on earth....tons of clearance and bolts on with one bolt. If your concerned it will come loose then you should be concerned with all bolts on the car at anytime coming loose....:p Nonetheless if you have OCD, put some Loctite Blue on the threads...Also just need the passenger side catch can, a drivers side catch can is overkill and catches nothing -waste of money...

Has anyone noticed any performance differences with the catch can? Does it restrict in anyway?
I use the BLT can and its mounted near the pulley probably the same spot as the JLT. Very solid though. Not going to come loose. Lots of people use catch cans with this mount and I have never heard of one coming loose.
I like the Billet Technology can. It's pricey but looks the best in my opinion. I figure I spent this much for the car so why not get what I think looks the best. Then I went nuts and bought a bunch of BT stuff!

No restriction, no performance differences ...
Every supercharged vehicle should have a catch can ..due to blow-by.
I had one on my non-supercharged C6 LS3 Corvette engine and it would catch oil all the time...so on the Hellcat I put it on immediately...

Quick question for those with the Billet: does the line that plug into the intake supposed to be not that snug? I mean, it's not going to come off if I pull on it, I just don't want leaks. The stock connector was on there like a bear.
Mine is snug....thought about a hose clamp but it wasn't needed

Let's see a pic! I wasn't there Saturday when you picked up one of ours. :)
Catch Cans are not an absolute must (as the car will run without them) but they are a good "Piece of mind" type mod!

I know I may be biased but I like our can, reuses the stock fittings so there is a strong connection that the hose will not come off of. Been tested on our personal Hellcat that has seen the road course - solid as a rock!

I over analyzed this when I decided a catch can was a good idea...I think Bobs is the best.

How often are these needing emptied? I am new to catch cans and reading up so I can familiarize myself with them. Any help would be appreciated, also do these create any type of smell within the car due it catching the oil?

The best way is to empty when you change your oil easy way to remember and stay on top of it
Empty when you change your oil.
No smell... It is contained and in the engine bay. Asking this question is like asking if the engine oil filter or oil cooler etc. would create a smell. Which of course neither do...
Does anyone know if the install of an Oil Catch Can will affect the factory warranty?

Had my HC at the dealership yesterday getting the Mopar splash guards installed and was shootin' the shit with one of the service managers and talking mods, he seemed to think that the catch can would be a bad idea with regards to potentially voiding the warranty. Anyone have any experiences with this?
Never heard of that. Sounds like a uneducated service guy.
