Well I just bought it, it's at 50k miles and I don't know what the previous owner did. From carfax it looks like they kept up with regular servicing at the dealership so maybe they took somewhat care of it and didn't beat it to hell. I just keep reading conflicting answers on different websites , some say change it because ZF says too and others say dont because it's lifetime fluid. I'd rather not mess it though. 🤷

Had I kept my 2018 Hellcat I was going to have the A8 fluid service done before end of warranty. It was close. When instead I decided to trade the car in it was 33 months old and had 27.5K miles on it. Had I not spotted a new 2020 Scat Pack (6-speed manual) on the lot as I was waiting to get my Hellcat out of service I would have probably booked the car in to have the A8 fluid/filter service done.

Lifetime fluid notwithstanding.

If I had an A8 I'd do it at 50k miles--as per ZF recommendation, not wait till 100k as per Dodge. But I'd make damn sure the shop that did it had the service manual and agreed to follow it to the T, and use the ZF fluid. A few $100 is cheap insurance on a several $1000 part. At 100k miles I'd wager most warranty coverage has expired--too late to do anything if a problem occurs then. If the 5yr/60k is still in effect it gives you some protection by servicing it at 50k.

Thought there was a change due at 60K miles for severe service.

Probably cheaper just to keep an acute ear and feel out for it, sometimes to much love can be a bad thing

Good point. What would be the first thing to feel/hear for with these transmissions that would indicate early problems? I mean Ive been driving long enough to understand what's not right, but I've been driving a lifted Silverado with over size tires and the shifting isnt exactly smooth.

Anybody in Oklahoma know of a reputable transmission shop that know these transmissions and will do a proper pan/filter and fluid change?
Highly recommend doing it yourself. The satisfaction and piece of mind knowing that it is done correctly is priceless. Have the confidence in yourself and learn it! Good luck and Godspeed.

Well really just whining noises that show up out of nowhere and are particularly loud in the cabin, overly aggressive (high pressure) engagement clunks, it really would be mostly mechanical issues

Why are you messing with it? It doesn't even mention it in the manual, only the rear axle fluid for severe service. Remember, WE screw up things when we mess with them.

Guys, there isn't a fluid that's a lifetime fluid. When Dodge says it's lifetime, they mean you will be out of warranty by the time something does happen to it and it's no longer their problem. The manufacturer of the transmissions (ZF) recommends filter and fluid replacements every 8yrs/48k miles. When it comes time for me, I'll likely end up swapping my pan out with the aluminum one from PPE and using Amsoil SS ATF.

Absolutely, and if you’re consistently hard on it or track it I’d say changing more often is best
