4622 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Rockster
I Just got on the car right before my house, car goes limp throws p0128 code, engine light, with almost no power i pull into my garage, engine temp warning goes off, clear looking liquid leaks all over the place. perfect end to shitty day. car sounded like boiling water or bubble under the hood after. didn't bother looking at it
Anyone have any idea what just happened or thoughts? Guess i was lucky i just go t home.🙁

Doesn't sound good...........................good luck!
The code refers to a T-stat being stuck open not allowing the engine to come up to operating temp. However, in your case, it sounds like the complete opposite as in the T-stat getting stuck closed causing the engine to overheat. Very strange. Good luck with the fix!

thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. If it over heated that bad would the engine be shot? what was liquid? it was red.
They picked the pos up today and I will know Monday I guess.

Relax. I'm sure your car is fine. The fluid you saw was engine coolant. Your car just overheated and coolant ran out of the overflow. In fact, it might be possible that your car overheated due to the fact the coolant temp wasn't being regulated. I'm just guessing here but I don't feel you anything to worry about.
You have made me feel a lot better my friend lol, thanks! fingers crossed.
If you ran it too hot for only a short time, it's likely going to be fine. If it were me, I would probably change the oil (depends on if the oil temp got too hot or not). If it was just a thermostat issue, it should be a quick fix and an oil change for peace of mind.

Code P0128 - Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature. This code means that the engine does not reach expected temperature after running for sufficient time, or in other words, took too long to warm up.

Coolant is not clear and has a slippery feel between the finger tips. Therefore clear liquid could have been just water from the A/C heat exchanger/drain pan.

The boiling water noise could have been probably was coolant boiling from the heat load of the engine after you shut the engine off.

This suggests that the coolant was not circulating in sufficient amounts to keep the heat load at more normal levels.

Thus the failure to reach the expected engine temperature after running for a while could be due to a failure of the T-stat to fully open.

You are welcome. But you or someone needs to get his hands dirty and really diagnose the problem.
