We have the same "free health care" here in Canada. I only pay 45% income tax so I also have to wait 24hrs in emergency and surgeries are 3-5 years out...It could be worse.
In Sweden we had free health care. That my parents paid 80% in tax to get it is surely irrelevant.
Anyway, in my case the bummer was that when my knees went out at 18 (couldn't walk more than about 10 feet), I got a doctors appointment for three years later.
Thankfully my mom had contacts and could get me to a private doctor in a mere three months. Yeah, "free" healthcare is great. NOT!
