Hi all,

I'm finally ready to get my order in so I can begin playing the Hellcat waiting game.

The dealer I am working with is selling for MSRP and asking for a $5000 deposit to place the order. Does this sound right and should I be skeptical?

Thanks!

It is high, but not unheard of. I had the same question, but it is a lot of money to tie up on a 6-9 month promise of a car-at least that was what I was told. And you can't get it back until the car you bought is sold. So let's say HC production is halted for some reason...

They also want to keep speculators away too.

Write them a check,, to hold the car, and tell them cash it upon going d1... either way, 5000 is a lot just to hold your spot.. if your credit is strong , then the dealer should be ok with less of a deposit,, I gave my dealer a check for 1000 dollars,, and they never cashed it,, once I got my vin# ,I replaced it with cash..

Idk we had anyone put anything down. No one can guaranty your going to get a car. it's very late in the game, I'm not saying impossible.

One place I tried asked for $5K deposit, but they wanted 10K over sticker, so I passed. Another place let me give credit-card digits, for a $1K deposit. After a few months, still in VON, but they have not charged my card. A different dealer wanted $5K deposit, but said he 'had an allocation' for me as I'd already been on a waiting list quite a while, so I went ahead and gave the five grand, as I want the car badly and it seemed legit; Worked out, as that was the VON that went to VIN, and the five thousand goes towards the purchase price, not ADM (or "Market Adjustment" as some call it) so I'm quite happy. I would not miss the chance to get this car, over a request of five grand, dealers have to separate the buyers from flakes in some fashion, but make sure that's going to apply towards the purchase price, and that the dealer has been getting regular allocations of Challenger Hellcats and that you will get one! (If he says you'll be number twenty on the waiting list, and that they've only delivered one 'cat, that's a bad sign!)

My Dealership asked for 750 after running my credit. However, 5000 is a lot of money to be able to order the car, especially if you don't get the car and have to wait until someone buys it to get your money back. Have you looked around to see if a dealership already has one on their lot that meets your build? It's going to a while before you take delivery ordering this late in the game, unless that works for you.

Establish a date you want your car by, make your down conditionally refundable based on that or at anytime before that date. And terms that buyer (you) can extend the sale date. Last that the next allocation or car they receive is yours, unless the car isn't optioned the way you want, or does not meet your satisfaction at inspection.

Dealer can't guarantee anything, your up front down (in that amount) demonstrates your sincerity which is more than the dealer can do at this time. For that reason alone they should find that mutually agreeable mine did.
