So I have an SS that should be coming in pretty soon. I live in an urban area with secured parking, BUT, like everywhere else, crime is wayyyyy up. Hating LE is all the rage here (won't be staying long btw) and I personally have seen some coordinated criminal activity first-hand, including some [email protected] taking pictures of my Hawk from the alley. I have raced down there twice, armed.

So I am a bit worried that I will always be thinking that my car will get stolen. I don't drive much and won't be parking it on the street very often. But my garage, even though there are cameras and it's secure, still worries me. I am going to put a Ravelco on right away. Thinking about covering it, too. Am I too worried? My guess is, yeah, kinda.....but what do you think?

Very definitely get the new Security Update done if not already done at the factory. This update converts the original Valet Mode to 5 HP Mode where the driver has to enter their own 4-digit code to engage the mode and then the same code to release it.

The Security Update will also Brick the Key Fob Module so new Fobs cannot be programmed with a Laptop and car driven off.

I would hold off on the Ravelco. They can still roll the car off or flatbed it and undo it. The new Security Update will prevent 90+ of thefts.

With the new Security Update, think about a Faraday Pouch at work and maybe at home if you keep the Fob near your car in the garage, or a Tin Can to keep the Fobs in at home. And then, there's wrapping the Fob in Tin Foil which works as well.

You are not overreacting and without your own private garage you need to worry. A secure public garage that anyone can drive into is a lot different than a residential garage at your house that you can close the door and no one sees what’s in there. I’d be worried.

I have no knowledge or not herd any thing about security update from my dealer or the factory when I picked up the Cat last month? I do live in a rural area and cat is garaged with security cams. Sounds like some good ideas when out and about away from home.

The Security Update is rolling out now for the '21s and working backwards to the '15s over the next months.

Why not wait until you are out of that area before you buy a new car?

I just wanted to add that the key fob programming lockdown update is NOT part of the enhanced security update that limits the car to idle. The key fob lockdown is supposed to be released next month.

Because that would be the smart way to do it
Yes, the smart thing would have been to wait but I think we all understand. By far the best method of keeping something secure is that no one knows it exists. I have 2000’ driveway and other than the delivery drivers, no one knows what I have.

Think about renting a storage unit, something with lots of lights and fences, and a unit in a corner not visible from the street. Maybe something in the next town. Or look for someone with a garage/barn you can rent even if it's 30mi out of the city. Keep it out of sight, out of mind, preserve it until you move, drive it once a week. All the insurance $ in the world will not compensate for a stolen/abused puppy.
