Hello everyone my name is Juan, ive actually been a frequent lurker on the site for awhile im finally in a position in my life to buy a hellcat so I do not own one yet. Since I was a little kid I have dreamed of cruising in American muscle cars and always loved cars in general. I was originally born in Juarez, Mexico and grew up in literally some of the worst gang/cartel violence a child could grow up in, many of my childhood friends and some relatives have fallen victim to killings and kidnappings and was grateful to escape it at age 11, my parents did come here illegally but worked their ass off 7 days a week eventually we were naturalized. I grew up relatively in a good home yet rough neighborhood in Houston, TX. Joined the Army at 18 and the rest was history spent 1 year in 75th Ranger Regiment 3rd Batt then 5 more years in the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson CO spent as an Infantryman. Not to spill my life story but all of this builds to why I want a hellcat having nothing but the clothes on my back and working to accomplish my dreams has been an emotional and harrowing journey and now to be able to reach this milestone, I have a child and wife and now im a government security contractor and really now am in the position to spend on a hellcat! I want a used one as I'm fine with 10-30k miles for a lower price point as I have plans to customize it alot ill prob be posting some noob question threads in the future haha but I've done my best to self learn a lot of valuable knowledge from these forums hearing from you hellcat owners. Honestly I can afford a new 2021 hellcat but I totally amnot digging the widebody look so used 2019 and below models it is for me. Thank you guys for your time

I would sit tight right now as used Hellcats are really expensive. I have a 2017 Challenger Hellcat with 14K miles. I bought it 6months ago and paid $49K (car had 12800mi). Today, if I do a search on cars.com for a 2017 Challenger Hellcat with less than 20K miles, I struggle to find one for less than $58K asking price.

Even though the VIN checked out and I went over the car meticulously, when I bought my Hellcat, I also added a 3-yr / 36K mi from MOPAR, just for piece of mind. I think it was around $2400

Hey Juan, welcome to the forum. Prices are inflated on used Hellcats right now, but they are slowly coming down. I bought a 2015 SRT Challenger with 7000 miles a few months ago at the top end of the blue book value ($48k) before the chip shortage started driving prices up. A few weeks ago, blue book value had shot up to a high of $58k for my cat. Last week, the value had dropped to $57k and a check last night now shows the value at $56k. I think if you can wait until the end of summer, you should be able to buy a used cat for close to what values were before the chip shortage.

You can still buy a new narrow body Hellcat. Unless youre talking Charger. Although imo w/o the WB the Charger looks extremely bland.

Also i‘m not seeing used prices dipping at all. Book values mean nothing if the market isnt reflecting that change. Last week at the dealer only wholesale auction that we attend a 2016 with 22k sold for $58k before fees. Also keep in mind that this is a dealer only auction as well. I’m not seeing prices dip whatsoever.

From an Old Army Vet that home base was Fort Bliss you accomplished much! Good luck to you and hope to see some photos of your ride when you get one picked it out!

I am also not a WB fan, but lots of people say it grows on them (one guy called them dualie fenders). The most important thing is to be patient. People who are anxious are much more likely to make mistakes. Sometimes you find the right one right away, other times it will take a year or more. I gave up looking for 2020 M6's then suddenly one appeared on a dealer's lot 150mi away. Phoned in a cc deposit and picked it up the next day. Look hard, be patient, be ready, don't compromise. Good Luck!

Yah so I've seen some are crazy with a bunch being almost the exact sticker price when bought new, I saw one with 40k miles at 69899k which is insane don't know what these dealers are on I'm definitely looking and choosing with a lot of scrutiny, I learned from the forums and bunch of people what to look for especially with used mileage on car like the hellcat which is not driven like a Honda or a Prius, and the issues that could arise and the warranty and such.

Also did you get your hellcat inspected by a third party mechanic or did you inspect yourself?

Yeah so Ive seen its absolute insanity lol most the hellcats in my area are nearly or on the exact sticker price of the hellcat when it was new factory, these dealers must seriously be on some good drugs no way im gonna get suckered but definitely looking hard and carefully, especially with what I've learned from the countless threads here on used hellcats,

Heres a good laugh
Hellcat 2016 Charger- Original sticker as quoted as new in 2015 on carfax- 65k

Definitley keeping that in mind and yes dealer prices are insane with most in my area for the hellcats I like, (I want a charger I like them tbh) being above sticker price when they were new like for example one I saw was 32kmiles and a 2015 srt charger hellcat and hes asking 69k even tho 2015 sticker price was 64k with 0 miles, didnt know it was this crazy

You have accomplished a lot Juan from a USMC 3rd Marines infantry vet. Wait until later in the winter. Prices may stabilize and come down
Big salute to you sir, and I think I will have to based on what everyone on this thread is saying dealers are charging brand new prices for used hellcats with 10-50k mileage and thier also 2015-2017 models which is highway robbery

Definitely the impulse was kicking in but seeing the advice on this thread and seeing the insanity of dealer pricing for them in my area I will definitely be patient I want a hellcat by any means but I cant be stupid and pay ridiculous money for inflated prices

This is the type of stuff im seeing so far lmao

Welcome Juan! Lots of great info on here - just fire away with questions, there's lots of folks willing to pitch in and help!
I definitely will! I've learned so much from just lurking already which has answered most questions, I'm definitely not car savvy by any means in the sense of performance cars as I have driven crappy little beaters with 4-6cyl so I'm definitely taking the time to learn and know what to look for as I know a a hellcat is a tad bit of a different ball game then say a Honda

Yeah, bro. Patience is your biggest edge. There's nothing more soul sucking than to pay for a Hellcat at the peak of its market hyperinflation and then watch its value tumble 30% or more when the chip shortage ends. Just know what the values were before this temporary "market adjustment" began and don't go more than 10% over the pre-shortage value if you find a super clean cat you really want. Good luck to you!
