I'm looking to have my brake calipers powder coated black. I've been told having them painted wouldn't look as good as the quality of the factory paint.

I have considered getting them wrapped but concerned the wrap would be destroyed by the heat from the brembos. Those two options are out so I'm thinking having them powder coated is the way to go.

Any experiences having them powder coated?

How do they look on the car?

What's the average cost?

About $500-600 typically. The single biggest issue is taking them off, having your car down, etc...

As a sidebar, if you're going to go through the headache of doing it, which it is worth it....I would actually suggest a nice accent color as opposed to black, simply because black is just going to look dirty all the time..

True you have a point that it may look dirty all the time so now I’m not sure hmmm… My goal was to have a sinister look and to black out the calipers as well as the side Hellcat emblem badges. Maybe I should have the calipers more of a satin black color?? If that’s the case I may as well have the side Hellcat emblem badges wrapped in Satin as well to match. Oh and I won’t have the headache as a professional shop would do the job. ;)

It's still a headache since it requires down time. That's the true headache part lol....

Honestly, if you're going to go that route.. you might consider looking for some of the glow in the dark vinyl for the emblems...

I had my 6 pistons on my 392 painted red from the factory grey. I've heard that sometimes after powder when putting the caliper back on some people experience issues from improper installation. I think paint is the better avenue all around just make sure if you are getting them painted that the shop performing it doesn't paint the brake hardware and pads everything should be removed and masked properly. I've seen some shit caliper paint jobs all depends on who is doing the work.

I would never pay money to have black or gray calipers. They will instantly look like run of the mill passenger car calipers and lose some of that "specialness" that you see when you look at the Brembo's. Just my opinion though.

This was my thought as well.... I would do some crazy color to offset the overall black of your car... like Blue or Green....

i removed mine and had them painted at a body shop. i would go paint over powder coating you don't have to remove the pistons and seals then rebuild, just mask them off.

I've never seen black colored brembos on a Hellcat before but if they will just look run of the mill and meh, then I might as well leave them alone and stick with my stock red calipers.

Not to sure about green but blue may look cool. Those ZR1 corvettes have awesome looking blue calipers.

I usually like to see how it looks on someone else's car first to give me a general idea and I can judge before making a decision. So without truly knowing how it looks and running into headaches and what not while being concerned wether it would look good or not then maybe I might just stick with how they look now.

I might visit shops and get opinions and stuff but maybe revisit this idea sometime later in the future.

I thought about having it painted till a shop was upfront and honest with me saying it wouldn't look as good as the paint job from the factory. Maybe it's just finding the right person to do the job correctly or perhaps better off not messing with them?

strange, mine look better. the factory clear coat on my 2015 just pretty much fell off and they looked horrible, it has been over a year now with these and they are still flawless.

I painted ours on my old Vette the color of the body (Millennium Yellow) and they turned out looking like they were powder coated. They lasted a long time too and I never had any issues with the paint on them either. I used single stage paint (don't have to clear coat it because it's in the paint) that I had gotten form a body shop supply house near us. They matched the body color perfectly and I just cleaned the calipers and brackets up with some brake clean a couple of times and then blew them off with some compressed air. I wiped them down again before painting and then brushed the paint on. I ended up putting three coats on and I'm not bragging but it turned out Fantastic.

Blue, green, orange or yellow look Really good on a dark car. It doesn't sound like those colors should work but they do.

This red is Gorgeous too. It looks like it was painted by a Really Good painter, but it's powder coated. It almost looks liquid for lack of a better word. You could do that with any color that makes you Happy. The glossiness and how it plays with light of it is what caught my eye.

This Scat Pack looks SPECTACULAR in my opinion and would look good on black too. It's just Sinister looking and has an Evil, Menacing look to it:

Electric Blue always looks fantastic on any car...

Here's a thread with the Dodge "black" calipers...like 7 or 8 posts down.... not a true gloss black though

Appreciate that, that was helpful to see. So far I may stick with my red calipers.
