Hi everyone,

So I already know the PS4S are considered the best street summer tire out. My question is for someone like myself who daily drives my cat, are they worth the substantial premium over the Indy 500 tires?

Im not tracking or logging milliseconds for time or anything, I just want grip on the street when I give it some gas under 60 mph.

Even though I DD it, I don't put much mileage on the car, about 5-6k a year. Everything in town is like 15 miles or less away. So I'd probably have the tires for a decent amount of time, if that adds to the decision making?

If anyone has had both, which seems to be the better overall purchase? Cost vs function for my type of driving.

They are great tires on my Daytona 392. As long as the weather is warm and dry I say definitely go for it. Now in weather like rain is little different, in a gentle to normal rain they are fine any more than that seems little sketchy. I don't drive mine very much about 1 day a week but went to a car show and coming home the wife and I got caught in a storm and at 45mph was a little white knuckle driving

PS4S if price is no object, Continental ExtremeContact Sport if you want close performance without the Michelin price, Indy 500 if you're on a budget.

The Michelins will far outlast the Indy 500. The PS4S has a higher up-front cost, but over time, you'd go through 3 sets of Indy 500s to 2 sets in the PS4S. I don't have too much bad to say about the Indy 500. I have driven on those. There's a noticeable traction difference at low speed and the PS4S noticeably bites into turns and shifts weight much better. The Indy 500 is decent all around, with the exception of wet performance. I will say though, if you do car shows, the Indy 500 is a good looking tire.

The Indy 500 is cost effective only if the car is a weekend toy. If you daily it, the car will likely need tires every year, if not sooner. I generally get at least 18 months out of a PS4S (around 10k annual miles). This time around though, I'm daily driving on PS4 all seasons. They're better than the Pirrelli summer tire and carry a 45k mile treadwear warranty. If I make it 4 years on these tires, I'll end up saving about $4,000 over had I stuck with the PS4S. The tires are overall very good, and on a daily, I'm not drag racing 99% of the time I'm driving the car. For the random times I do unleash it, the tires hold up well. Not as good as a summer tire, but they're very competent and they're the world's best rated wet tire. This is needed down here in FL.

Thanks for the replies. May go PS as I am in FL as well, and will deal with rain. I'm in Tallahassee, so we do get a coldish season. Hopefully they would be fine. No snow but the occasional morning in the 30s.

I saw the comment on the extreme sport tires, but they appear to be more than the Michelins now. Is there a better deal? If so, where? I'm on widebody for size.

The big thing with the PS4S - overall outside temp needs to be above 38 degrees and you don't have to worry about cracking the tire. Anything below that and you do....

Per Michelin, you are not to allow these tires to flex below 20F. You can safely drive with them somewhat below 38F without risking to ruin them. For me, the limit that I set is 32F, and I don't have issues with them. Just don't expect good traction at lower temperatures.

I was told verbatim by a Michelin rep that you are not to drive these in any way if the car has been sitting in temperatures below 35 degrees until the outside temps are 38/above. Basically, if its been 35-38 outside, you should be fine. If it's been 28-34, they don't recommend driving at all as the tire is prone to cracking at that point.

And we saw this happen across the board with the Corvettes a few years ago. Bottom line: if its really cold out, just dont drive it or buy all seasons...

Man it makes this decision tough. Perfect world, I'd have a set of wheels and summer tires and a set for all season during the 3 months it's cold, but it's just so much for so little, especially since it's only dips that cold rarely. My issue is I'm on the highway everyday for work. A cold wet January morning may make me think twice about summers all year

Xylander, you DD your around here? What tires do you have?

If you don't use your car like X, you can just swap the rears between summer and A/S. I run the stock A/S in winter and Indy 305's this summer. Might try the PS4S next spring, if they are available. (They weren't this past spring.)

Seems like the Michelin all season should also be an option for you, too. Mine are great and give me piece of mind in colder weather here in Missouri. Not sure how they are in the rain since I haven't driven them in the rain yet.

I had Indy 500s on my challenger T/A M6 and now my 1320 305s on 11" in the rear, OEM up front. No issues rain or shine with the T/A and liked them for the $$. Didnt use them in winter. The 1320 though with the A8 and gear blows them up at will off the line, though age could be a factor, as they are now 3+ years old. I dont think theyd be worth shit for traction on a Hellcat. PS4 or contis maybe better

This is why you just get you a set of DR's if you really wanna go to the track..... and just run the all seasons so you get longer life out of them..

Did anybody notice he will NOT be tracking the car? He said it was a daily driver with a short commute to work. Minimal mileage and just wants a good tire for the rain and occasional low temperature in Florida. As usual we all over analyze. Go with the Pilot Sports and call it a day!
