Quality issues with the Hellcat

I have a widebody on order that hopefully will be built soon and super excited to get it. My question is about quality issues with them. Every time there is an article online, facebook for example there are many comments about the poor quality of Dodge vehicles. My friend has a 2015 Hellcat, one of the first ones to come out and loves it, no issues at all. Also my sister has had three Chrysler 300 with hemi engines and no problems either. Any input from those on the forum who own them now, how has your experience been? Thanks

Usually trash talk is from jealousy or trolls. I have been modifying lx and lc cars since 2008 and I think they are very impressive. There is always a defective part here and there and most of the time it gets blown out of proportion online. I think you will be really happy with your purchase. I waiting patiently for my new 2018 plum crazy hellcat challenger.........

Fit and finish, especially weak/soft paint, can be a problem some have experienced. Other than that, it is generally passable. You're not buying an S-Class (or paying money in that range). What we are paying a premium for (for the most part) is the motor. I suspect they could have done a better job on the interior trim for not that much more money, but then it's already one of the most expensive cars FCA has ever built.

Are you going to place more faith in what you read online, or in what 2 people you know have told you about their ownership experiences?

I would take the latter.

That being said, my internet opinion is these are cars lol

If you are expecting German fit and finish then I would suggest counseling...This pair of fraternal twins are the MOST powerful, comfortable, driveable vehicles EVER created! Every car manufacturer has made lemons, but luckily I've never had one, and my HC is as perfect as it gets.

Here's a list of the issues that I've had - http://www.hellcat.org/threads/disappointed-at-3k-miles.127065/ I managed to get some of them resolved, but not the majority.

The big one for me at this stage (beyond soft paint, which all modern cars suffer from) is the quality of the Laguna leather; 100% would not order again. As it is I'm likely going to have to get the interior redone by an upholstery shop.

That said, some people do get one that doesn't have any issues, so you might be lucky (or I'm extremely unlucky)

Have owned Chrysler products for 35 years and they have been very good to me.when I strayed to chev and ford my problems started ,got back to Chrysler they stopped.was a tech for 28 years and took care of fleets of dodge vans no other brands would last as long as the dodges.the last years as a tech were at a dealer and saw some trouble cause by Mercedes lowering quality.my saying for German cars is they couldn't make anuses for a hobby horse

Sorry for your issues. It's just luck (or maybe unluck) of the draw on getting a car with none, one or multiple issues. But as I have mentioned in other post I worked as a mechanic for 17 years in GM and Subaru dealers (a lot time a combined dealer) and I know other mechanics from every other make, none of them are going hungry, even the BMW, Mercedes, and Audi guys.

I have some friends that I know work on the off line at assembly plants (BMW and GM truck one) and they stay busy as hell fixing factory line mistakes or faulty parts that come right off assembly.

All in all, they are massively assembled hunks or metal, plastic, and electronics and they ALL have problems, maybe some more than others. Like I said just luck of the draw. Hang in there and if you have a good dealer they will get the issues worked out and you will be happy. If you get a slack dealer, find another one.

The problem is that people want a 707 HP car with new styling, superior exterior paint, perfect and high quality leather interior, lots of options...yet they don't want to pay what all that would cost in a car like this. These performance cars cost a lot of money. And, unfortunately, manufacturers have to cut costs along the way of producing them to keep them affordable and reasonably priced to appeal to buyers. If we had the best paint and best leather etc, the price of these cars would be much more than it already is. I think the quality of these cars is good enough for the price and for what you get out of the car. It is on par with other cars that it competes with.

Thats a bit of an exaggeration, i'm not after tip top leather made from unicorns (North Koeras chief export, little known fact) rather, leather that doesn't deform and stretch after ~3k miles, looking worse than my grandmothers 20+ year old honda. I had a ford that went ~100k miles and looked better (was scuffed and had normal wear, but was still taut). And thats without even getting into the electronics issues i've had (infotainment unit)

I'm happy with the paint, knowing it's soft doesn't mean that I ***** about it, just that I know its soft; likewise, I'm happy with the fit and finish, its part of the appeal of the car.

Really, its more that there are issues that would be unacceptible on any car, $7k, $70k, or $700k.

paint, paint, paint...best thing for you to do is visit a lot of dealerships and look at a lot of used Dodge's Challengers and see how well they have held up. Interior, exterior. etc. Then judge for yourself. Every car is different. Just make sure it's not built of Friday, or Monday, or.

good luck. have a '16 Charger hC, paint sucks, the clear coat and color coats are thin, thin, and then thin some more.

I have a 2016 HC. I also own a SL550 Mercedes, Corvettes, Jeep etc. The absolute softest paint I ever witnessed was on my dads black CTS Caddy...it was terrible. Back to the $70,000 HC...comparing the paint, interiors, panel fitment and over all solid feel of the car to the others I mentioned earlier, I put it right up at the top. I also hear many people griping about the HK sound system. I used to compete car audio on a national level and demand a lot from my vehicles sound systems. I am over the top pleased with my HC's system, finally knowing there is absolutely nothing I need to modify sound wise.

*I will note that I have noticed scratches on the driver and passenger side glass as well as the sunroof glass. I am thinking faulty adjustment pads may be the culprit. I will be talking to the dealer.

Thanks so much for the comments, good to hear from real owners! Sure to be many haters out there, and they are just jealous that they don't have the car. I have a very good dealer who has taken great care of my sisters 300 cars over the years. Looking forward to being a Dodge Hellcat owner!

I have a long laundry list of complaints on my Hellcat. The major complaints being the paint. My paint was bubbled on the roof and FCA wanted to "fix" when there is no fix other than completely repainting the car. When I told FCA to buy it back they refused and I had to file a lawsuit against them (18 months ago). We had a summary judgement hearing 2 weeks ago and am awaiting the ruling from the judge. I feel we have proven our case. I am SUPER disappointed with FCA and the fact they could have just taken it back and made me another. Instead they want me to fight and fight for what is right. Just give me a vehicle I paid for.

In addition to the paint "defect" I also suffer from a poor paint job, IE: orange peel.
Paint drips on wing
Transmission stuck in 7th gear after 250 miles and valve body needed to be replaced
Exhaust tip is off on one side
Leather seat issue
Wind noise from driver side at highway speeds
Tires are horrible and dealership damaged wheels and car when changing them
Windshield itself hazzy
Car pulls hard to right on acceleration and when you let off it darts left.
A/C system randomly changes blower location
Rear End noise
Ordered the car with a sunroof and was delivered without one

No help from FCA, SRT, or the dealership it was purchased from.

DISAPPOINTED!

On a good note I have continued to drive the car and after 23K miles no oil usage and no supercharger issues. Love the concept of the car, poor execution of the production.

My statement wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular...or any car in particular for that matter. I was just saying it in general because it does seem that while there are some legitimate complaints about these types of cars, there also are other complaints from people who like to nitpick. I think that for the price this car is more than satisfactory. Of course some will have defects but mine didn't. The interior and exterior are great. I've never owned cars like Mercedes or BMWs so I can't compare it to those. But I thought my 5th Gen Camaro SS had the best interior of any car I've owned up to that point. And I feel the HC has an interior that is on par if not slightly better. I cannot complain about this car.

I have little to complain about mine so far. I did blow a driveshaft carrier bearing in normal driving and the rear makes a bit of noise but I bought it used and the previous dealers I would bet beat the living hell out of it since its a very early build car. My drivers door window is clicking when going up and down which will get looked at on the next oil change and Im getting whifs of antifreeze but no visible leaks so far.

I will say the leather seats could have been done better. I have the alacantra inserts and 25k miles and they look brand new but I cant say that about the laguna leather Ive seen. My WRX has leather. Its stiff, but seemingly very durable. 22k on that and not a hint of wear.

Also the hood vents, HC fender badges, fuel filler door all belong on a wall in pep boys. They are cheap shit that dont belong on a $70k car. They dont belong on a $30k car.

First things first welcome to our Hellcat forum from upstate New York.
I have had 2,000 trouble free miles and enjoy the Hellcat very much.

I saw a wide body Hellcat in Pontiac Michigan this summer and it was very nice.
Always enjoy your Hellcat journey and have fun
