I am curious if any one in this forum has done a full length header installation on a Charger Hellcat. More specifically, has anyone done an install and A. kept the original cats AND muffler system, or B. with high flow cats AND kept mufflers attached. Ya know, as some of us DO drive these cross country and the quality of the sound is what we're after, not ear bleeding noise.
My main reason for asking is I recently did a cam, valve train and full length header upgrade on my '11 Ram and due to the high flow cats, I had to get rid of my 60 series Flowmasters and install not only much bigger and quieter mufflers but also had to install resonators to keep the blapies down.
I miss my Flowmaster sound on it. The Hellcat is now 4.5 years old and it's time for a tune and possibly, depending on answers here, some full length headers. Right now I have Flowmaster super 10's on it with no resonators. The sound is perfect, especially on 1300 mile trips, and I really don't want that to go buh bye like it did in the Ram.
Any information on users experience would be greatly appreciated.

I dont have experience with the hellcat platform specifically, but any sort of header and hiflow cat will increase sounds dramatically. You will need a bigger muffler.

Are the mufflers straight through? If chambered, they will rob wheel power. Secondly, you may be reaching some threshold. I would do the tune and see what the back pressure is before the cats. The internet garbage about engines "needing" back pressure has been debunked also.

Most people mistake the back pressure myth when its the scavenging effect theyre lacking down low.

I wouldnt say "waste" as theyre still a benefit, just not going to be the first part id recommend throwing at a car.
Given the cost and relatively 0 gains due to the stock system already being optimized, I guess the definition of waste is more at odds here ;)

Whatcha talkin bout? That shit is FUNNY. What makes it funny in caps is that he actually believes it. He wasn’t trying to be funny, he actually thinks a tuned car wont be quicker with custom exhaust. Hell my naturally aspirated scat picked up with the junk I built for it here at the house. Blower motors love free flow exhaust

Op doesn’t care about that tho. Wants to know how much louder it will be with headers. There is no room for the stock cats with headers and the stock cats are what is making the super 10’s bearable. I vote leave it be : )

ARH makes a mid-length that is said to gain 15ish WHP (might be more, can't remember) that still retains the stock cats and cat location. Here's more info: ARH Race Manifolds 1-7/8 x 3" direct fit for...

Find it hard to believe they are worth anything on a dyno but they are 304 stainless (and therefore over a grand)

Nice header to weld a v band to if you are wanting to hang a couple turbo’s from them tho

I am a fan : )

So, the stock catalytic converters are so restrictive they also act like mufflers? Could you maybe escape by just adding more thorough, longer, but not chambered mufflers to the exhaust system? (I remember someone said the actual mufflers on the car are in the middle somewhere, not the rear.)

Chambered mufflers sound better to me. Added a extra chamber, still laf. So what do you think I did? Took the tail pipes off and put some turn downs on it instead lol. I made the tail edge of the turndown (they are only 17°) right under the leading edge of the spare tire well so it’s not ridiculous. Well… not to me : )

I feel for you guys that have never heard anything other than the store bought stuff

How did this conversation go from a question a normal question to an argument over if something makes power or not then into how some people haven't heard a good sounding exhaust before because all they ever bought was pre-made stuff by companies? Anyways I know this is kind of an old thread but I still want to get my two cents in, it has been shown more than a few times that headers on a hellcat really don't do much as in adding power that is one thing I have been told and seen many times but who knows I'm not a expert. As for sound that I really don't know or have an idea what the best sounding is I just know that I have heard some good setups and some bad ones personally I just have a muffler delete but would like to do more maybe even get rid of my cats since I'm on E85 and making around 900 and I heard that helped at that level but once again who knows like I said I'm not an expert.

Taking the cats off is a great way to get impounded. All states differ, but if you do that here on E85, it's only a matter of time.

@rift33 When using race gas for the Track my Hellcat uses Q16 and then it's cat delete. It's more about not killing the cats with the race gas, because it's not unleaded.
I also can race with the cats using MS109 unleaded, which I have been doing over the past couple of years. I am changing back to Q for this race season.

You are correct about different builds, some part become supporting ones and then they do help the build. But a certain levels they don't help.
Some guys just like to have certain things part of their builds because they are preparing for the next level. And sometimes parts go up for sale.;)

Arguments are some peoples way of life and it becomes a way of trolling and takes away from the help!
