Has happened 3 times now to me....when the car has been running and driving and is shut off for 1-2 hours and I go to start the car back up the motor will crank for 3-4 seconds stumble then start? Then runs fine with no codes or check engine lights. The car only has 500km on it. Never had this happen on any of my previous hellcats but they were all non redeyes....so who knows

Thought id reach out to see.....

Thanks guys and gals (y)

This is a well known issue and yet no clear answer has been found that I've read yet.
My RE has a slightly different warm start issue. Only when it’s hot, operating temp, if I shut it down to run in to a store and come right back out it will act like a weak battery. Very slow crank and then it will start. Cold starts are fine. My last Hellcat did this too. Embarrassing too. Someone mentioned fuel pressure could be the culprit. I wonder if our issues are related. Warm starts seem to be an issue for sure.

Mine will do the hot slow crank sometimes.......could be a variable timing thing but she always lights up

Reads like a low battery. My 2018 Hellcat would slow crank -- not severe just slow enough/different enough from when it didn't that I'd notice it -- after sitting unused for a some few days.

If you don't drive the car long enough for the alternator to replenish the battery the slow crank can occur upon a hot start.

In my case my usage of the Hellcat was a 30 mile drive to the office in the AM then making the drive home in the PM. This was enough engine run time -- over 30 minutes -- that if I used the car to go out to lunch or stopped on the way home to run into the grocery store the engine would start with no slow cranking.

The work commute 2 times a week eliminated the slow cranking and other symptoms/behavior arising from the low battery.

Even though my 2020 Scat Pack sits longer between uses than my Hellcat did so far it has not manifested any slow cranking or anything suggesting the battery is low.

I see what you're saying but mine does it and is shop kept connected to a battery maintainer .

My ‘17 had issues starting back up after it had been running for a while. The starter would sound different and fire up faster, almost how some older fords have that grunt to them and the starter fires extremely quick. It definitely ran rough whenever it happened.

My 21 Redeye has had two odd, hot starts. Both times I had issues was after an hour plus of spirited driving. Pulled in and filled up with gas. When I hit the starter, the car just cranked for a solid minute, but never kicked over the engine. I could not get the car to stop cranking, once it became possessed. It’s like the starter was cracking away, but the pin refused to engage the crank. Both happened within 3k miles. I am at 6k now and no repeats so far.

Jesus, I’d be worried about frying the starter. You just sat there while it cranked away?

Even Scat Packs will do this now too.

My ‘21 never did it in 10,000 miles, and I’m in NYC and jump in and out of the car with some regularity. I’ll let you guys know if the Jailbreak does it, but either way, it doesn’t seem like it affects EVERY build, even though this issue seems to span several years of production. What the hell could this be?

mine did that once this winter, parked for a min to get some bagels came out and the starter just cranked and cranked. i chalked it up to snow and ice and being like 4 degrees that morning. has never done it again.

Mine did this from day 1. After exhaustive research and relentless pressure, I was able to get my injectors replaced. That seems to have cured the problem for me.

If you can, have someone stand behind it once or twice. I could smell gas as if it was pushed through the exhaust. I think injectors would leak and the fuel didn't have time to evaporate. I NEVER had this issue on a cold start. Only after warm from driving and sitting the1-2 hours you mentioned. So whatever leaked must have evaporated overnight, maybe in as little as 3 hours.

Now if only I can figure out why I get a CEL on 1/4 mile WOT runs I would be happy. The light disappears on it's own and leaves no codes. So my dealer can never "see" it.

This is what passes me off about @DodgeCares and FCA We go to the dealer, as you would suggest, and get nothing. There is enough instances of the OPs issue that someone has to know what the hell it is. Some central database to troubleshoot. I spent hours of my time compiling information that FCA should already have. And changing injectors appears to have worked, for now. But they act like they have never heard of these problems before.

my 19 HC has done this too. I dont think its a battery issue as its done it with both the OEM and the Lithium installed.

Ive recently begun to press the ignition to RUN without my foot on the brake, let the fuel pump prime for a few seconds, then start it. It has not replicated the long crank since doing this.
