Since the fluid change, that I know off a rubbing noise is heard in the cabin that has gotten worse when letting off the throttle , now without music listening and all windows closed the rubbing like the flapping sound made by putting cardboard on a bicycle spoke when we were kids has now turned into a mechanical metal kind of grinding so am gonna take it to the dealership, it’s a 2016 and has 37500 miles on it, it seems to me if it’s the differential it should be covered under warranty?

I use the manual paddles to down shift a lot instead of burning the brakes up, is it possible doing that has caused a bearing to go bad?
it was fine until they changed the rear differential fluid out. Very strange, also had the smog converter stuff done at same time.

Sounds like they forgot the fluid.

Another reason I do my own fluid changes.
Music? I don't really hear the radio when driving the 'Cat. Not the way I drive.

An audio clip of the sound it's making would be great so we can understand what you're trying to explain.

Do you have an extended warranty? If not, It will not be covered. Five year/ 36,000 power train warranty. Agree, could have left fluid out. You should check it before dealer pulls a fast one!

On 2016, the Powertrain Warranty is 5 years or 60,000 miles.

If it's over time, then say it didn't make the noise til you changed the diff oil.

So should be covered.

But please don't tell the story the way you told it here. Leave out the loud music and the part where you say you use the paddle shifters to save your brakes.

Say very simply, it's making this noise and not much else.

Thanks for all the responses, when I parked it in the hospital multi floor parking garage I noticed a kind of brake grinding noise and I blew it off to the rear brakes maybe rubbing due to the tight corners, yeah makes no sense, but now reading other comments on things I see that may have been an issue with the rear diff all along. Anyways, I was turning a corner with a slight embankment and the rear end popped/clunked and the car jolted, but I was able to get it to the dealership. “New Diff ordered”. Still in shop, 38,000 miles and a 2016, i got an extended warranty so it should be covered, hopefully.

Using the paddles for engine braking is genius!

Brake pads are expensive and a pita to change…

Tranny, driveshaft, rear diff, cv’s? That stuff is dime a dozen and much quicker to r&r : )
Funny when you think your doing a good thing, but 3500 bucks for front brake job, they were squeezing, so they said needed new rotors and pads, didn’t say 3500 and only 19,000 miles on it, refused to pay, finally after a couple of people gave offers, I paid for the materials. 1800 bucks, cause he said, you’re gonna have to get your brakes done anyways. I saw the logic, but the rotors weren’t the same as the original, no holes and lines shorter, the cooling holes, anyways, guess better to use those big bad brakes in the future.

Yes, being too honest has ****** me a few times in my life, you’d think I’d learn. Leased for 3 years then bought it, got extended warranty so should cover it. If they say no I’ll have to fight for it. 38,000 miles, needs new rear diff is bullshit. never driven track burned rubber a few times. Let a young guy do donuts in parking lot once, he smiled ear to ear. Probably made his year. Car has had no issues otherwise, wish I didn’t get the rear end fluid change now.

Leased for 3 years and then bought it, yes got extended warranty. Would be stupid not to, 15,000 for a supercharger replacement. Thanks!

I have avoided getting a new diff by simply checking, and then changing, the diff oil early.

No burnouts, no track driving, just careful gear break-in and normal use. But by catching the very large amount of debris in the diff housing early, I managed to save it without any dealer visits.
