Let's see your rig and mounting methods! What do you like and not like about it?

And some questions about my choice.

Is anybody running a Uniden R8/R7 with a blendmount BR7-2001 and a mirror tap? I have everything in and will install tomorrow.

Wondering if you like the set-up. Does it impede your view?

Did you use or remove the extra link? If removed, can you still access the buttons on the top front easily enough or does it sit to close to the bottom of the mirror?

Does the extra link allow you to position it further back and still tuck up tight or does it float it low and forward?

I'm hoping to avoid mounting, un-mounting and re-mounting and interested in any additional observations regarding the unit, mounting, settings, efficacy and so on.

Thank you for sharing.

Hi,

I run a Radisson Pro-m, on a Blendmount, it's a smaller detector (box of smokes size) but the Blendmount offeres lots of adjustability although depending upon where your buttons are you may want it to hang a bit, mine is a little close, so muting is awkward to do quickly, but like it being tucked up to the mirror.

Hopefully someone with your model detector will chime in.

Man. That looks great! Thank you for sharing..

How do you like that Radenso? Do you feel that it blocks your view there?

Those pictures are helpful. That is the same mount with the extra link removed and I can see the ROM.

Hi again,

The Radisson has saved me plenty, did get nabbed by a Lazer in GA heading to Florida, but 20,000 miles doing 70-90mph most of the time I'd say it paid for itself and it's size is nice. Good range, only bad the latest firmware doesn't do Lazers, guess it use to pick up more lane detector on cars. It's a bit dated, and not sure if there will be much future support as their latest model is the DS1 which I got for my Jeep, but is 2x the size.

No real blind spot issues, no more than anything hanging from your mirror, it's actually nice being able to glance over to see what it's reacting to vs looking down at the dash.

Goodluck with the installation, post some pictures when you get it installed.

Regards,
Jim

Roger on all!

I don't believe any detector can do more than tell you what brand of laser gun stung you, more of a ticket notification system. So you aren't missing out on anything helpful. Only jamming can save you from the stupid laser.

My experience was no matter how I adjusted the BlendMount, the detector was always in my field of view. Swapped the BlendMount for a $10 eBay mount affixed to the very top of the windshield with VHB tape. I then installed the remote display for my Valentine One where I could easily access the mute button while running the detector in "dark mode". I realize I have a different detector than you, just sharing my opinion on the BlendMount under the mirror vs windshield high mount.

My R3 with BlendMount hangs a bit low but I do have room to get my finger on the top buttons.

That looks great! Did you sacrifice any rear protection mounting high?
No compromise with rear detection, tested multiple times with known radar speed signs. The rear facing sensor is visible through the rear window when looking level at it. If anything I seem to have more range with it mounted high and level.

-Again just my opinion, the BlendMount location under the mirror may not bother you as it did for me. One other consideration would be access to the detector, i probably would not have mounted mine high if a remote display was not available. I do like the fact that other drivers and LEO cannot see detector lights since I can run in dark mode on the detector but see indications on the remote display and the app.

Next month I'll be integrating the A-L Priority system.

@optout and your power for the unit is tapped off of the rear view mirror? Can I pls see a pic of your power cord into the unit? Just wondering if yours is the same as mine. I like your stealthy set up but wiring into my mirror was a pita and swapping detector units without having to rewire would be key if I upgraded to the V1 Gen 2 with remote. Thanks.

In my installation, power for the G1V2 is not tapped from the mirror, it is fused and tapped from the keyed-on 12vdc @ center console. The V1G2 uses a standard 2-pair/4 conductor telco cord with RJ-11 ends (phone cord) to communicate with the remote display and receive power. The cord easily tucks in the headliner, down the driver A-pillar, under the lower dash, and finally into the V1 hardwire kit that is included with the detector.

Using the mirror tap for the detector (no remote display) would be possible but will not work with the detector and remote display. Hope this helps.

Great. Thanks. I should have mentioned mine also gets power via that same telephone cord. So I can get the unit powered from mirror with the same cord but not if I want it set up like yours with the remote?

Yes, that is correct as far as I know. The remote display needs to be plugged int the "Acc" port of the hardwire kit to receive power and communicate. The detector will operate with the mirrortap just fine as a stand-alone detector.

Got it, thanks, I thought the remote kit plugged directly into and received power from the unit itself.

Great to hear on rear coverage. It would be a clean option if the Blendmount has me rubber necking to check a blind spot often.

Except some engineer at Uniden thought top front was the ticket for buttons. Atleast they moved mute to the front.

Dark mode is very cool. I've seen tons of praise on the priority system. Hope you share your thoughts on that, you might just spend some money for me. :)

I changed the thread title/OP to be less focused and encourage all things radar detector, 2022 edition.

Installed and set up the R8/Wire Tap/Blendmount. Nothing to it, except a tiny harness and tiny wires. I've got 20/20 and it was hard to see the wires to test and blade. I'd recommend magnifiers lol.

On this one, 2022 WB Charger. There were three wires. Black, Orange with pink stripe and Pink. Ground was black, on/off was pink. Used the smallest blade set. Would have preferred a tighter fit but next size wouldn't go for me.

I did remove the extra link. Still have access to top buttons. I was able to get a tad closer to the mirror with the extra link out.

I hate anything blocking my view, even poorly placed inspection stickers pi-- me off! I always tuck it above the mirror on the pass side. I use the remote so there is no advantage to the mirror tap, I use the cigar port on the console, which is switched. BTW: Is the mirror tap switched?
