I'm sure the starter is staying engaged, but unsure why... It almost seems that the remote start system doesnt detect that the engine started, and keeps trying to start it, but times out and shuts everything off again. If it were possible to pull the starter relay immediately after it fired up, I'll bet anything the sound goes away... (Can't though, at least not easily. The remote start wont function if the hood is open...)

Also not sure what the engine is monitoring to verify running condition, it's not oil pressure or fuel/spark, so pretty much has to be RPM. May have a failing crank position sensor? Or, it could just be a bug in the ECM programming?

You could try replacing the starter relay, and then potentially the starter, but I doubt that is going to fix it.

I have a 2022 HC Challenger and it's doing the same thing. Loud rattle on startup. It shuts off after about 10 seconds. Remote start is disabled after that and I have to restart using the start button. No noise on restart. This has happened 3 or 4 times now. I hope somone figures out what's causing this. Super frustrating!

Yes. It was below 40 degrees.

That seems to be the conditions that this likely happens in. Stone cold motor and cold exterior temps. I have only had it happen the 1 time. I have tried to capture mine on video Incase I need to show the dealer as this obviously would fall under warranty. But it hasn’t done it again.

I had the noise happen again and car shut off on its own when I remote start it. I captured it and figured I would post it here see if it can help anyone. I’ll be going back to the dealer with video in hand in hopes they may be able to keep the car again overnight and have it do it and maybe get an idea. Definitely seems to be happening on a few of these. I wonder is it only the hellcats with this noise or are the 392 scats making it too? Just curious

What you hear is the starting motor self destructing, and taking the flywheel along with it... Get this fixed soon or it will cost a lot more.

Another good one! Was that from starting it from the push button I’m assuming since it didn’t shut off? And I’ll be dropping my car off today and let them have it for a couple days. Hopefully between the videos and maybe them catching it they can find something

So I’ve got an update. guess i got a little lucky as it did it while it was at the dealer and they suspected starter as mrfixitnd said. So they ordered one and inspected flywheel then installed starter and have tried it multiple times since and haven’t had it do it again. They are going to keep it another day or so to try it in the am again but fingers crossed that was it

clean as could be. Not even a scratch is what I was told. They suspect everything was going on in the starter. They bench tested the old starter but couldn’t mimic the problem but it doesn’t surprise me as it’s not getting loaded up. Just free spinning with no load

No sir. No codes in it either. I was curious if they would find any as I scanned it as well but nothing. I got the car back Friday and as of now it’s been good. No noise or shutting off with remote start and I’ve tried it each day. So for now the starter seems to have fixed it. hopefully this can help anyone else with the noise cuz it sounded the same as mine

All good still? I’ll be soon going for oil change and want that fixed as well.

No the noise came back about 2 weeks ago but I’ve had a few other things going on and haven’t been able to drop it back off yet. But at least something was done last time so they can start checking else where
