I now have about 6,500 miles on my 2021 Super Stock. The 3.09 rear end is already starting to howl bad. I drive and enjoy the car as a daily, but never raced or abused. My old 2012 SRT yellow jacket whined more than I liked, as did my 2020 redeye (however a bit less noisy than the 2012). But my Super Stock is getting really loud. No longer just annoying, but really whines to the point it dominates all other sound except the stereo. Especially with the windows up. At dead cruise it is awful. As much as I hate to, I am going to have to take it in to the dealership to be replaced under warranty. I still love this/these cars. Just wondering if all of the Hemi Challengers have noisy rear ends? And has anyone had the 3.09 replaced with good results at the dealer? Thanks for the feedback.

Ive had two cars with 3.09’s and one with 2.62’s and none were howlers. I’d say it’s known a thing but not all have it.

I can't speak to the dealership aspect of your questions but I can tell you my experience with the 3.09's.
I've had a 2.62 RE that I switched to 3.09. I've had a factory 3.09 RE and now my SS. All three 3.09's were noisier than a factory component should be. Period.
I can say that the 2.62 was as quiet as my wife's everyday driver V6 Challenger.
Good luck at the dealership and I hope you get lucky enough to get a quiet one!

My experience is the same as Bo above. I even had one replaced and the replacement was noisier. I have meticulously broken in a few and that seems to help, but not always. Some are quiet and then as soon as you put the hammer down with a sticky tire they make noise. I think if you take it in, they might have a solution. Ask them to make it a STAR case. I "think" I have heard of a special lube being used on noisy rear ends by some dealers but not sure.....I have had some that make noise at a certain speed and some that make more noise when cold etc. But I have not really had one that was severly obnoxious ALL the time. But honestly, EVERY One, would be an embarrasment to me if I had a Passenger............Now you know why I gravitate to the ONE SEAT cars.................LOL

I was afraid of it being a common experience. Yeah I broke mine in meticulously too. And yeah it is super embarrassingly loud. Hopefully I will get good results on the new unit.

It looks like the fix is to change out the fluid for the Viper fluid and additive. All of the details can be found here. first link he discussed what he used. Second link is the results. Or you can sit back and read the whole fing thread like I did 😈

Sadly it falls in the same category as the hot restart thing in where 2 out of 10 won’t do it, my ss howled like wolf from day one, it hits its high notes on tip in at 40ish when driving sanely and she starts singing after closed throttle from wide open throttle! it’s a heel n toe noise..my last cat did the same thing from day one (2:62) with minor differences in and when it would start mouthing off, for me it goes hand in hand with the loud a$$ fuel pump noise that comes with rear seat delete but I don’t let it eff with my head, I figure if it’s making metal it would of blew up a long time ago cause I’m hard on it, well actually insane! but like Drago says “If he dies he dies!”

My suggestion would be try the oil change at home if it doesn’t help you’re out a few bucks, if it gets quieter that’s good, if it goes away completely that’s great, the best part is it’s basically a simple job

Have you changed the differential fluid yet?
