Recall On Demon Cruise Control? Check NHTSA.gov To Find Out...

7119 Views 43 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  ENZOBTR
Just posting in case one of our Demon's is affected. Not having full control of your 808, or 840, horsepower wouldn't be fun...

Same goes for 707-horsepower Hellcats or any other Challengers from 2015-2018.

I just checked my VIN and it says "0 Recalls" -- whew!

Consumer Advisory: Owners of Certain Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Should Stop Using Cruise Control

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) strongly encourages vehicle owners to follow a warning from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to stop using cruise control on the vehicles listed below until repaired.

FCA is recalling approximately 4.8 million vehicles to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. Should this error occur, drivers may not be able to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once cruise control has been engaged. To stop the vehicle when this occurs, drivers would need to 1) shift the transmission to neutral, 2) forcefully apply the manual brake, and 3) place the vehicle in park once stopped.

Vehicle owners should contact FCA at (866) 220-6747 for additional information concerning this recall. Report potential safety issues to NHTSA by calling (888) 327-4236 or submitting a complaint online at NHTSA.gov. Affected models, as currently identified by FCA, are:

  • Dodge Journey MY 2014-2018 SUV
  • Dodge Durango MY 2014-2018 SUV
  • Dodge Challenger MY 2015-2018 2-Door
  • Dodge Charger MY 2014-2018 4-Door
  • Ram 3500 MY 2014-2018 Pickup Truck
  • Ram 3500 Cab Chassis MY 2014-2018 Pickup Truck
  • Ram 3500 Less Than 10,000 Pound Cab Chassis MY 2016-2018 Pickup Truck
  • Ram 2500 MY 2014-2018 Pickup Truck
  • Ram 4500/5500 Cab Chassis MY 2014-2018 Pickup Truck
  • Ram 1500 MY 2014-2019 Pickup Truck
  • Jeep Wrangler MY 2018 SUV
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee MY 2014-2018 SUV
  • Jeep Cherokee MY 2014-2018 SUV
  • Chrysler 300 MY 2014-2018 4-Door
  • Chrysler Pacifica MY 2017-2018 Van
  • Chrysler 200 MY 2015-2017 4-Door

NHTSA urges all drivers to take the following three actions to stay informed of all current and future recalls.

  1. Visit NHTSA.gov to find out if your car or truck is under recall. Search using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Your search result will tell you if your car or truck is included in this or any other safety recall at this time. Vehicles scheduled for future recalls will not show up in this search, so it is important that you check regularly, at least twice per year.
  2. If your vehicle does have a recall, call your local dealer to schedule the free repair. Be aware that in the Takata air bag recalls, there are priority groups; parts are only available for certain vehicles starting at certain dates.
  3. Sign up at NHTSA.gov/Alerts to be notified by e-mail if your vehicle is affected by a future recall.

Not mine ,I just went on my updated car health report, as of todays date, no recalls. maybe they already updated mine during my last service back in April.
Chatter on the interwebs is that they have not yet loaded all the affected VIN's, I'd wait at least a few days & check again before spiking the ball !

I just had a live chat with customer care and was told not all VIN'S have been finalized so you won't find anything at any site you go to regarding if your vehicle has been affected. It should be finalized by next week as well as when the reflash will be available. I see a headache coming for people that are tuned....
Yeah, I signed up so once all VIN's are confirmed I'll automatically get an email and won't have to go back and look it up

I just dont want to open a can of worms, meaning a re flash will or may cause other issues. I will never ask about this to the svc dept unless they bring it up to me. I have had to problem with the cruise.

You may not have a choice. If you take the car for service and there is an open campaign they will perform the repairs.
The reflash is the fix for the cruise control issue. My thought is that if you have to get the reflash done, people who's cars are tuned will have an issue as the pcm is reflashed to the factory updates.

That is true!

So whoever doesn't want the flash better lock your OBD port or stay away from any dealer.

I realize that ,i meant I wont volunteer info to them. If they do it ,fine no problem.

It shouldn't be a problem for the tuned cars, you get a hand held flasher with the downloaded tune in it to put it back. I had that with my 03 cobra.

I only saw a link above to " sign up" for future notices based on car type (18 challenger) not by specific vin.
Yeah, it's a sign up that will become active once all affected VIN's have been listed in the database. It'll work the same way as the Dodge owners site I'm guessing.
I will wait for my HC doctor to tell me about it when I bring her in for touching and manipulation service ,which she hates.
I just checked again and still says "0 Recalls" -- I wonder when we'll know "for sure" that the Demons weren't impacted...
Yes, Demons are effected. They flashed my car today while they were installing my harness bar and oil change. No issues.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but should the flash be done on the original PCM or the upgraded 840 horsepower Demon crate PCM?

Well it was done on the crate PCM ‘cause that’s what I’m running but I guess they can do it on either. I checked and race button/ tune still works
